Venturing out to the Hautes-Alpes to see high mountains, pretty Provençal villages and Gorges de la Méouge? Then you'll be happy three times over when you settle down at Camping Les Myotis, a calm site on the outskirts of Ribiers, surrounded by lavender fields and with easy access to all of the above. To keep the kids content and cool in warmer weather, you might want to throw the site's small lake and its waterslide into the mix. Equally, you might like to arrange ping pong or pétanque tournaments, leave the children to tire themselves out cheerfully at the playground or walk just under a kilometre down to the banks of the Buëch river. Practical amenities at Camping Les Myotis are also sorted to help your break run smoothly: there's a grocery store that stocks ice lollies, snacks and local products, a laundry room with washing machines and tumble dryers plus well-kept toilets and showers (including family-friendly cubicles). This is a quiet site and probably not the place to go for 24/7 glitzy entertainment: calm and starry nights around a barbecue are much more likely to be the order of the day. That said, the friendly team do occasionally organise activities to help you get to know your neighbours, with past events including themed nights and bingo games. Need food shops, bars or a railway station? Make the nearby town of Sisteron (10 minutes' drive) your first port of call.

Lovely ladies in the reception
Clean showers and toilets. Nice pitches with sun and shade. Great to have water as well as electric hook up on pitch.

不喜欢 The pool was not operational but we were not told this before we arrived. (this could have been included in the 2 emails sent the day before we arrived).
We were told we could use one down the road but we had just driven 5 hours and didn’t want to get back in the van.

喜欢 Friendly staff on arrival, decent sized, shaded pitch with boundary hedges and very clean facilities. Loved the swimming pool. Great that it wasn’t just a blue rectangle! Nice little bar serving local beers and not too much of a hike into the village. Also look out for the campsite chickens. Very cute!

喜欢 Everything. From the friendly team to the excellent facilities. Very clean. Spotless. Quiet. Sleep well. Not big campsite. Small enough to make it cost. Highly recommend it and will go back again

不喜欢 The pool was closed for maintenance on one day out of 4, we were staying. It was a shame as it was very hot. But we went to the river instead so it worked out at the end. It would be good for the owners to make sure that on maintenance day, for the pool to be opened for the campers. Could work on having a better wifi.

Starting locally, you might like to take your travel crew for a day out in Sisteron (10 minutes' drive), where a huge hilltop citadel, river Durance views and Gallo-Roman heritage should be more than enough to keep them all occupied. There's also a high ropes course just outside town at Sisteron Aventures (10 minutes) if you're amenable to a spell swinging from the trees. There are impressive rock formations visible at practically every twist in the road around here, but for some especially spectacular geology you'll want to head to Gorges de la Méouge (10 minutes), where sheer rock faces, clear blue waters, an ancient bridge and dramatic whirlpools may well have you hooked. As you'll no doubt have noticed, this region is rich in gastronomy, with all sorts of tasty specialities to get your taste buds tingling. Try farm-fresh produce at the markets at Laragne-Montéglin (15 minutes), Serres (30 minutes) or Orpierre (30 minutes); those with a sweet tooth could also visit Apiland (50 minutes), a speciality honey museum with a host of interesting hives.
