Worried about winding up with a boring holiday? That won’t be a problem at Les Pilotis du Cognac, a family-friendly site less than five minutes’ drive from the village of Bourg-Charente in Poitou-Charentes – there’s piles to do (it’s funny in French…). Explore the Charentes region from Les Pilotis: take to the country roads and banks of the Charente river on foot or by bike, or get out on the water to see it all by canoe. If that sounds too active, pull up a piece of riverbank and cast out a line to see, or head to the nearby golf course (less than five minutes’ drive) to play a round. Back on site, you can get nice and relaxed: have a leisurely game of ping pong or rack up the points in pétanque before taking a dip in the heated on-site pool (open during the high season). You can also reserve the private relaxation area on for its hot tub, sauna and aromatherapy, and its library full of books and magazines... Once you start to feel that familiar gnawing in your stomach, grab some supplies in one of the supermarkets in Cognac or Jarnac (both around 10 minutes away) and either cook them in your private kitchen or fire up the barbecue. If you’d prefer to have someone else look after the meal plan, there are plenty of restaurants within 15 minutes of Les Pilotis to try.

喜欢 Perfect site and lovely hosts. Good dog walks straight out of gate. The sauna and jacuzzi were the icing on the cake after a long drive.

喜欢 Fabulous location, lovely walks on La Charente nearby. Wonderful welcome from Frank and Martine. So well looked after. You can order bread and croissants each morning, delivered to your motorhome. Martine will make a beautiful food platter if you want, served with drinks of your choice, champagne, wine or pineau. Pitches are big with privacy screens and vegetation to look nice. The swimming pool is very clean, lovely and warm as it’s enclosed. It’s refreshing to swim in and showers are close by, also nice to use, lovely warm water.

喜欢 This is a gem of a campsite. It is run by a very friendly and helpful couple, Franck and Martine. It is small and very peaceful and a real sanctuary. There is a lovely heated pool and you can book time in a wonderful spa with sauna and jacuzzi. It is very clean and well cared for site. They organised croissants and bread for us in the morning. It is situated in a beautiful village by the Charente and surrounded by vineyards. We will go back.

喜欢 Loved everything about this place. Franck and Martine fabulous hosts. Amazing views, location and stunning pool. We only stayed one night but could have stayed for days. Franck recommended a local Michelin Star restaurant which we walked to and was amazing! We will definitely be back.

喜欢 Franck and Martine were exceptional hosts they really cant enough for you . The site was perfect lovely swimming pool vert clean showers and toilets. Franck arranged a trip to the distillery for us and it was excellent. We had bread and croissants delivered every morning .Would definitely come back . Thankyou so much Franck and Martine

This is cognac country. Start with tours and tastings at Courvoisier, about five minutes’ drive from Les Pilotis du Cognac, then head in to Cognac for the same at Camus, Remy Martin, Martell, Hennessy and Cognac Meukow. While in Cognac, stick around for more than the brandy – there are plenty of museums, and the Château Royal de Cognac, Jardin Public and La Maison de la Lieutenance are must-sees, plus the scenic medieval streets are super strollable. Once you step away from the cognac of it all, there’s still plenty to do in the area around Les Pilotis. Montendre (around 50 minutes away) is a worthy visit, with its old buildings, château and lake where you can hire pedalos and canoes or laze on the beach – to see everything, make sure to call in to the tourist office for a guided tour. Stick with history with stops at the Roman ruins at Saintes, the châteaux de Dampierre-sur-Boutonne and de la Roche Courbon, and the stunningly scenic village (and UNESCO World Heritage Site) of Saint-Jean-d’Angély, or stick with the scenic at Pons and Jonzac. Kids chafing at the bit? Try a trip to the coast (roughly an hour away) or stick closer to home at Les Antilles de Jonzac waterpark.
