On the north-eastern tip of the Île d’Oléron, one kilometre north of Saint-Denis-d’Oléron, Vacances ULVF - Les Beaupins is a top spot for a seaside-y family holiday. Indeed, there are so many beaches scattered along both coasts of this island in the Bay of Biscay that you can probably choose a different one for each day of your stay. Fancy a sheltered sandy beach with shallow waters where you can have a go at paddleboarding? Head to Plage de la Boirie (five minutes’ drive – or hire a bike on site, so you don’t have to worry about parking; it takes about the same time to cycle as it does to drive). Plage des Huttes (10 minutes, or 15 minutes by bike) is more exposed, and the place to visit if you’re into kite- or windsurfing. Plage de Chaucre (15 minutes, or 25 minutes by bike) has rockpools at low tide, and it is a top spot for sunset watching. The site is so close to the sea that you might be able to hear the ocean from your shaded pitch. On days when the ocean roars (instead of gently murmuring) and feels a little rough, you can head to the on-site heated indoor pool (with a paddling area) or to the wellness zone, which has a sauna and Jacuzzi. Alternatively, take a break from the water altogether and make the most of the other on-site facilities, such as the pétanque court or the multisports fields. This dog-friendly site also has a playground, a restaurant/bar and a food shop, as well as a toilet/shower block and a launderette.

不喜欢 Dommage, il n'y a pas un seul parasol autour de la piscine. Toujours utiles en ces périodes de chaleur et que nous souhaitons surveiller les enfants de loin.

喜欢 Not much. Weather was good.

不喜欢 Very busy, and pitches close together. You could hear all conversations. Toilets and showers old. No toilet paper!! Also, no lights outside toilets when using at night.

喜欢 Emplacements spacieux. Grande piscine. Personnel très aimable.

不喜欢 Pas assez d'ombre. Il faut peut-être envisager d'ombrager avec des filets de camouflage (par exemple). Tendus entre 4 poteaux..... Surtout que les canicules vont être de plus en plus fréquentes

喜欢 Possible the location but wasn’t great

不喜欢 No toilet paper I can deal with but no toilet seats. That’s a joke.
Toilet and shower block in desperate need for a major upgrade not just a lick of paint as has been done before. Cold water in showers when it’s over 30c a hot shower is not required and no cold available. Better description of area, yes it’s 5 minute walk to the beach but told you can’t swim due to dangerous currents and you have to climb over rocks .

喜欢 Accueil exceptionnel par toute l'équipe, barman super gentil préparant d'excellents cocktails, pizzas excellentissimes, équipe d'animation au top, piscine très grande, sanitaires très bien entretenus et emplacement campeurs très grand, wifi qui fonctionne bien, 1km500 à pieds du centre ville, marché tous les matins, location vélo pour de magnifiques balades sur des oistes cyclables bref un excellent séjour, nous reviendrons assurément.

On the northernmost tip of the island is the Phare de Chassiron lighthouse (five minutes’ drive or a half-hour stroll), built in the 19th century and surrounded by elegantly manicured gardens. It’s worth climbing the 224 steps to the top for distant views of Île de Ré, across the strait. Designed in the 1600s by Louis XIV’s military architect Vauban, Fort Louvois (40 minutes) sits between the Île d’Oléron and the mainland. At low tide, it can be accessed on foot; at other times, you’ll have to take the shuttle boat to visit its ramparts, barracks and powder house. On the river Charente, Rochefort (an hour) is surrounded by marshes and mudflats inhabited by storks and avocets. A nearby hangar houses the aircraft of the Musée de l’Aéronautique Navale, while in town the Old School of Naval Medicine, founded in the late 18th century to train surgeons on board warships, sits in a splendid park.
