An Atlantic coast beach is a 600-metre amble from friendly and family-friendly Camping L'Océan in the Vendée – but you might put even that off for a bit to have a splash around its first-rate waterpark. Semi covered so you can have dips whatever the weather, the heated waterpark spreads over 1,000m² of main pool, paddling pool, waterslides and Jacuzzi. There's also a sizeable outdoor pool, including more slides, a paddling pool with water toys, and space alongside for sunbathing… wifi access is available throughout the park too if you want to lounge and surf. A full and lively programme of entertainment and activities runs in summer in and out of the water, including aqua gym, pony rides, gym classes, sports tournaments, and evenings of karaoke, dancing, music and magic. The kids' club takes ages four to 10 during the school hols (ages 4-6 in the mornings and 7-10 in the afternoons), with a teens' club too in July and August. Also around are a roomy bar, with snacks, takeaway service and games; a well-stocked shop selling groceries, souvenirs and beach gear, and a spacious and friendly restaurant, with plenty of terrace room. Amenities include four bathroom blocks and a laundry room with tumble dryers.

喜欢 We liked the park and its facilities, great pools, location to the beach, cycle routes and swimming pools.

不喜欢 Lack of communication from park staff, not knowing what was on and when it was on. If you are not French no-one has time to include you or your family.

Camping L'Océan is a short stroll from the sands of Brem-sur-Mer, an Atlantic coast seaside town known for its beach and its vineyard established in the 14th century by local monks. Under 10 minutes' drive from Brem is more of the seasidey same at Bretignolles-sur-Mer, home of a 13-kilometre beach popular with families (if you want a quieter Bretignolles beachy spot for the day, follow the Route de la Corniche from the town centre). One of the Vendée's many cycle paths is accessible from town too, from the beach a short distance to the shops and restaurants of Bretignolles town, and around the Parc de Morinières. Another famed Vendée seaside town is within day trip distance at swish Les Sables d'Olonne, 20 kilometres north of Bretignolles or about 20 minutes' drive from the site. It's a busy and popular town, with a three-kilometre beach, busy fishing port and big harbour; arrange boat trips from this latter if you want to get out onto the Atlantic. The Camping L'Océan team also recommends nearby La Gachère, a little fishing village with narrow roads and low houses. Cycling trails are 200 metres away; bikes can be hired on site.
