If you want a full flavour of French cuisine (oui), you'll find it here in French Flanders. The shop at Camping de la Ferme des Saules, in the grounds of a working farm in the Flanders mountains, is piled with all sorts of fruit and veg fresh from the fields for you to sample, as well as a range of tiptop produce from other local suppliers including fresh meat, pâtés, cheese, eggs, sweets and homemade Flemish waffles. Pick up some local fruit juices and beers to wash it all down and you’ve got everything you need for quite the French feast. Ferme des Saules is a family-friendly site, half a kilometre from the Belgian border and 20 minutes' drive from Ypres. Guests are welcome to wander the farm during opening hours to meet the chickens, goats and pony, or you could work your appetite up further with a pre-dinner game of pétanque while the kids bounce around the playground or trampoline. Spacious grass pitches are within easy reach of a smart modern toilet block that houses toilets, showers, a kids’ bathroom and an accessible bathroom. There’s also free wifi access around the site. Ferme des Saules is a few kilometres from Bailleul for yet more foodie options at its restaurants, bistros, bars and speciality shops: you can reach town within a five-minute drive, a 15-minute cycle or a 45-minute walk, depending on how many calories you need to work off...

喜欢 The check-in process was very straight forward, you get shown around the site and get to choose your pitch. Staff very friendly, common kitchen for campers is a very good idea, and whilst 'well used' is great for cooking, boiling the kettle and fridge/freezer use, whilst the weather was great for my stay I can imagine this area would get a lot of use during not so good weather. The toilet and shower facilities are really good. Wifi throughout is good for planning the days routes. The campsite is in a great location for exploring the area, especially The Western Front and Flanders. Will stay again if the opportunity arises.

喜欢 A lovely little campsite. I really liked the fully stocked camp kitchen which was available for anyone to use. I used the cooker, pans and plates to save getting my own stuff out (just be sure to wash up your stuff after). Lovely (free) showers and toilets with paper. The farm shop sells the most amazing local fruit and veg and meat. Couldn't ask for more.
Really cheap and free wifi
About 1hr from the tunnel so good for a last stop off.

喜欢 Great sized pitches and just as recalled from
our las visit.

不喜欢 This visit was spoilt somewhat by the summer camp kids , who seemed to lack any sort of supervision, slamming toilet and shower doors and filling the sinks with soggy toilet roll. Could have done with out the excessive noise after 10 in the eveing.

喜欢 Convenient site for getting tunnel home (about an hour drive to Calais). Nice facilities and plenty of them, we were only there for one night but the site was full and we didn’t have to wait at all to use toilets/showers.
The site is about a 15 min cycle away from nearby town Bailleul, which has bakeries, bars and impressive belfry.

Tip- We arrived about 2.30pm so there was a bit of a queue to check in. Reception/shop opens at 9am just to be aware if ordering bread and have an early departure.

At Bailleul, start in the flower-filled Grand’Place, dominated by the 62-metre belfry tower of the town hall, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Climb to the top for spectacular views towards the mountains and to get up close to the 35-bell carillon. Around the corner from the square is the Museum of Benoit-De-Puydt, a converted private house where you can learn a bit about the town’s role during the war and visit the exhibition of Flemish art. Also worth a visit is the Country Life Museum in Steenwerck, a 15-minute drive from the site and set up to recreate a Flemish village in 1900. The major Belgian point of interest close by is Ypres, 20 minutes' drive from the site, where you can tour the battlefields, visit the war cemeteries and learn more about the area's historical significance at the In Flanders Fields Museum.
