Take to Castelnau-de-Montmiral in the Tarn region to be in a land of handsome old villages, lush vineyards and outdoor activities for all ages and tastes – and to Camping du Chêne Vert for a family-friendly base in the midst of it all.
Hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, climbing and canoeing are all around here; even closer, an amusement park with a lake for swimming, fishing and canoeing is within strolling distance, as are tennis courts, football pitches and miniature golf. Medieval Castelnau-de-Montmiral is two kilometres away; also essentially, the wine of the region can be easily sampled in these parts via a vineyard visit to Gaillac, 15 kilometres away.
If you're up for being entertained on sit, Camping du Chêne Vert lays on family entertainment like karaoke, films and dances in the evenings, as well as a kids' club during the day. Eats are sorted if needed at the bar and restaurant, or at the shop and communal barbecues if you're doing meals under your own steam.

La Base de Loisirs de Vere-Gresigne amusement park 300 metres from the site is a good option for family days close to base, around its 20 hectares of miniature golf, tennis, an orientation course, fishing, pedalo, canoe and kayak hire, and supervised areas for swimming including a toddlers' slide.
The bastide town of Castelnau-de-Montmiral is two kilometres away, a spectacular medieval Tarn town on a hill high above the Vère valley. Among its sights are the central square of the Place des Arcades, the painted ceiling of the Church of Notre Dame of the Assumption, and half-timbered houses all around. Two more scenic villages, Puycelsi and Bruniquel are 12 and 16 kilometres from here.
The region around Castelnau-de-Montmiral is tiptop too for investigating the wines of the region, particularly at the old town of Gaillac, developed over a thousand years ago on its Tarn river setting. Make for the Maisons des Vins to find out more about Gaillac wines and to pick from a vast range of local wines to bring back as souvenirs.
More essential regional produce is at the Art of Chocolate Museum in Lisle-sur-Tarn (15 kilometres) and its exhibition of chocolate sculptures by artists and chocolate artisans (licking the sculptures is not allowed, but you'll get to taste some chocolate at the end of the tour).
