A camping break in the gorgeous Gers countryside but with no need to put up a tent? If that sounds like an excellent idea, take a look at Séjours du Gardian, where a small number of safari tents have been set up at a peaceful rural location about five minutes’ drive from the village of Barran.
It’s all about comfort and convenience here – you’ll be able to move straight into your tent when you arrive, getting your relaxing break started from the moment you arrive. Bed linen and towels are provided to keep your packing list nice and short, and you’ll have access to handy amenities like a fridge, picnic tables and bathrooms with toilets and showers.
You’ll probably find that the pace of life slows significantly while you’re here – perhaps you’ll take a wander around the gardens, relax with a coffee on your private deck or head over to the swimming pool for a cooling dip and some time stretched out on a lounger with a book (or just your own thoughts). Later in the day, you may like to cook dinner on your barbecue (pick up supplies at the shops in Barran) before settling in for an evening of stargazing.
Time for something a little more active? The team on site can help you organise bike hire, and there are plenty of walking trails, traditional villages and wineries to fill your days with. Local towns like Auch, Mirande and Marciac often have festivals and events going on in summer too.

There are a couple of excellent spots nearby for heritage hunters – to start with, Château De Lavardens (half an hour’s drive) is just outside the pretty village and has some wonderful art exhibitions. There’s more art on display (including works by Monet and Picasso) at Flaran Abbey (half an hour), and you can admire items from the Paleolithic era at Archaeological Museum / The Treasure of Eauze (40 minutes).
If outdoor pursuits are more your thing, perhaps you’ll fancy some watersports action at Base de loisirs de Castéra-Verduzan (25 minutes) or zooming down the waterslides at Gondrin Parc De Loisirs (35 minutes). Lac de Lupiac (25 minutes) has a nice beach area for a cool swim, or you could take a stroll among the plants at Palmeraie du Sarthou (40 minutes).
For more days out, visit the fortified village of Larressingle (40 minutes), explore the Musée d'Artagnan de Lupiac (25 minutes) or have a day wandering around Toulouse (an hour and 20 minutes). Plenty of local wineries have their doors open for visitors too.
