When you’re after a small site tucked alongside the Creuse river in Limousin, where dogs and kids are warmly welcomed and can play safely, Camping des Combes sounds like the spot for you. This family-run – and very family-friendly – site has spacious pitches surrounded by greenery, ample space and privacy for families, friends and anyone who just yearns to get back to nature. There's a wide range of activities to keep everyone occupied: hiking, cycling and mountain biking in the forested Millevaches Regional Natural Park directly from the site, or wild swimming in the river and kayaking its reservoir are all on the cards. Alternatively, of course, you can forgo all that and put your feet up by the outdoor pool, and when you’re in need of refreshment, potter up to the terrace bar for a chilled beer. There’s also a simple, inviting restaurant serving local dishes, which is a balmy sun trap on warm summer evenings. Other reasons to stay at Camping des Combes? The proximity to the historic village of Felletin (10 minutes’ drive), where there’s a supermarket and Creuse riverside walks perhaps? Or maybe the fresh air, the birdsong, the call of owls at twilight, and the spectacular starry skies on cloudless nights? That decision is yours to make.

喜欢 For selfish reasons i dont want to leave a review as this site is a gem of a find exactly what we were looking for. Everything on this site is as described. Booked for three nights but stayed five and would have stayed longer if we could. Peaceful, large, private and optional shaded pitches. Clean facilities and a lovely pool with a nice bar area to have a drink on an evening. Berber is an amazing host and we will definitely be back.

With Millevaches Regional Natural Park on the doorstep, you can soon be out and about in the foothills of the Massif Central on foot or by bike. There are looped boardwalk hikes through the Forêt de La Chassagne (15 minutes’ drive) and waterside rambles around the reservoir at Vassivière (55 minutes), while Lac de Lavaud-Gelade (half an hour) is a peaceful spot for a family picnic. The kids will probably be very excited to encounter wolves in spacious enclosures at the Parc Animalier des Monts de Guéret Les Loups de Chabrières, also home to a petting zoo with alpacas and pigs. Close by is another surefire family hit – the Labyrinth Geant des Monts de Gueret (both 45 minutes), a seasonal maze on a farm where you can also play giant chess. Other days out might include a cogwheel train ride up the slopes of Puy de Dôme volcano (an hour and 20 minutes), or a trip to Montluçon (an hour) to discover its impressive Bourbon castle, labyrinthine alleys in its medieval centre and the Gothic architecture of the Église Notre-Dame.
