Take a short walk to the bird-shaped Roc Cornut, maybe, or drive for 45 minutes to reach the Gorges de Galamus for scenic hikes or adrenaline-filled canyoning excursions. For more outdoorsy activities nearby, have a chat with the friendly folks on site for details of local horse riding, caving and canoe trips, some of which may be organised by the site in high season. Come down from the mountains to hit the Mediterranean coast with a drive of an hour or so. Stop off in Perpignan to see the historic Castillet and Palace of the Kings of Majorca and pick up tasty snacks in the city’s north African quarter, before heading to the resort of Canet-en-Roussillon for watersports or lazing on the nine-kilometre sandy beach.
