If your DryRobe has been hanging unused in your wardrobe because you can never find a chance to go wild swimming, listen up – this is for you. Camping Le Val de Cesse, in the Aude department, sits right on the tree-lined banks of the Cesse, a shallow river that is eminently swimmable (for children, too), but that also lends itself to watersports – whether paddleboarding or canoeing (any equipment can be hired on site). If wild swimming is a step too far for you, you can still get your laps in at the heated outdoor pool (open April–October), which hash an additional paddling pool for toddlers (with a suitably diminutive water slide) and a large terrace with sun loungers. Other ways to keep the kids entertained include a playground, a petting farm and pony rides. It’s also possible to hire a bicycle on site. A five-minute bike ride takes you into the nearby village of Mirepeisset, where you can stock up on picnic essentials at the grocery store before continuing along the Cesse to the Canal du Midi (a 15-minute bike ride). Prefer to hike? There are plenty of trails of various degrees of difficulty in the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park (40 minutes’ drive), and they’ll take you past dramatic waterfalls, up craggy outcrops and to spectacular viewpoints. In addition to the village grocery store (and to an on-site produce delivery service available three times a week on reservation), there are several supermarkets and restaurants within a 10-minute drive.

喜欢 This campsite is perfect, the owners and the staff are amazing, Marie,Frank & Neil made us feel so welcome and couldn't do enough for us, they made us feel so welcome and were so helpful, the site is beautiful with brilliant amenities,the pool is perfect & the bar and restaurant is lovely, the food really is top class,it has a beautiful river that runs along side the site where you can swim or fish, the area is picturesque, there's a lovely beach only 35 minutes away, its settling is amazing, I would 100% recommend this site & we will be going back year after year.

The Aude is renowned for its red wines, and there are several vineyards and wineries within a 10-minute drive of the site – in pretty much any direction you care to choose. Many of them arrange visits to the facilities followed by tastings, and they also sell their vinous offerings at the cellar door. Narbonne (25 minutes) is home to a medieval monumental complex that includes the unfinished Cathédrale Saint-Just et Saint-Pasteur and the Palais-Musée des Archevêques, Palais Vieux, an imposing stone structure. La Via Domitia is a stretch of ancient Roman road, or you can visit the birthplace of French chansonnier Charles Trenet (of ‘La Mer’ fame). Crossed by the Canal du Midi, Carcassonne (55 minutes) has an ancient hilltop citadel (the Cité de Carcassonne) with more than 50 towers dotting its fortifications. In the modern part of the town, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Carcassonne, in an elegant neo-classical building, displays art from the 16th century onwards.
