Camping U Pinarellu

Coming to Corsica and wanting to be near its gorgeous coastline? Of course you are – and you’ll be well placed for all things seaside with a stay at Camping U Pinarellu. This quiet family-oriented site is a mere 700 metres from the coast of southern Corsica, about 10 minutes’ walk from a watersports centre, a clutch of seafront restaurants and (perhaps most importantly) a splendid sandy beach. Not that it’s all about escaping from where you’re staying – au contraire, you’re likely to be keen to stick around on site for at least a little while. This is, after all, a place that’s been set up in the midst of woods full of oaks, maritime pines, eucalyptus and mimosa trees, with plenty of space to relax in the shade and peace. Elsewhere around the five-hectare site there’s a tennis court, a playground and an outdoor pool that rather handily has a grill restaurant set up alongside for easy access to meals and drinks as you chill out (and if the menu there isn’t what you had in mind, take a wander over to the bar-pizzeria for more feeding and watering options, or check out what’s on offer in the grocery shop). While it would be perfectly possible simply to stick to the site and its immediate surrounds for the duration of your stay, it’s worth breaking out at least once for a day trip to Porto Vecchio – a 25-minute drive gets you down to one of the island’s most swish towns for a stroll around.

Ready to take to the waves? Wander down to Pinarello harbour (15 minutes’ walk) for sailing lessons or to sort sessions of windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding or jetskis. Not quite up for such activity? Just pick up an ice cream and head to the beach instead… And once you’ve seen this beach… well, there are plenty more to check out along this stretch of coast. Try out San Ciprianu (15 minutes’ drive) Palombaggia (40 minutes) and Rondinara (45 minutes) or find one of the coves around the lovely Cala Rossa headland (15 minutes). For a change of watery scenery, head inland to the hiking trail that goes up to the Cascade de Piscia di Ghjaddu waterfalls (an hour’s drive) or hit the harbour in Porto Vecchio (15 minutes) for boat trips to the southern tip of the island around Bonifacio and the Lavezzi islands. Leave a bit of time for a poke around in Porto Vecchio too; there are lots of places to eat, drink and people-watch in this smart seaside town.
