Spectacular surrounds, a riverside setting and all in the comely countryside setting of Châteauroux … what a belle site this is. Settle down here to be close to watery days, beach sunbathing and a peaceful vibe… all with plenty of attractions and activities nearby: handsome Châteauroux is the biggest town in the Indre department; many hiking and biking trails wind around its local forest and the surrounding Loire valley; the Brenne Regional Natural Park is under 40 kilometres away – and you might be chuffed to hear you can get to Paris in under two hours by train… Camping Le Rochat Belle-Isle is by a river, a short distance from its eponymous lake which has a beach for sunbathing in summer as well as a good pick of watersports on its surface. There's also a swimming pool three kilometres from site: one free entry is available to all guests, with following dips available at a discounted rate. This is a warm and friendly site, with fishing and bike hire, barbecues allowed and a small shop selling regional products. Bread and pastries can be ordered for delivery the following day. Other leisurely options can be had around the play area, table tennis, pétanque court and games room with TV, board games and books – and a kids' club runs in July and August with workshop activities held once or twice a week. Free wifi is available in and around the reception building.

喜欢: The pitches were big and you could choose which one you wanted. The location is good, especially if you are in a motorhome. Chateauroux town centre is an easy walk, there is an excellent restaurant more or less on site and there are plenty of walking and cycling opportunities.

不喜欢: There is a shower block that can only be accessed with a wrist band and as such its use is restricted to so many times per stay. The cleanliness of the big shower and toilet block leaves a lot to be desired.

喜欢: De broodjes service en de douches (niet die tegenover de balie) en het retractiepark er om heen. Er was ook bewaking op het park wat goed zijn werk deed. Er zat ook een goed restaurant om de hoek, waar we heerlijk hebben gegeten.

不喜欢: Het personeel achter de balie was niet heel pro-actief, maar ze hielpen je wel goed als je het en vraag had. Jammer dat het recreatie meer dicht was en het aangeboden golf slagbad alleen een kleine stroming in het water had en 2 gesloten baden!

喜欢: A good selection of flat shaded and open pitches with good separation, we were able to choose our own. Park with lake and Guinguette next door. Easy access to A20 and to Châteauroux on foot.

不喜欢: Sanitary facilities, although plentiful, were a bit tired and could have been cleaner.

喜欢: Great location and easy to either cycle up the road or walk through the parks, to the town (about a mile). Plenty of showers. Bread and pastries available to order from reception.

To Châteauroux first for some sightseeing and lazing about among the town's old buildings and green spaces… Start off at the tourist office to pick up a guide showing the many old monuments and houses in the town: there are two routes to follow to see most of these, one covering the medieval part to the north and the other focussing on more recent times to the centre's south. Châteauroux also has a popular park, covering 21 hectares of green space, gardens and walks; and Belle-Isle Lake to the town's north, for watersports, swimming and walking. To the south at Le Poinçonnet is Châteauroux's state forest, home of hiking and biking trails as well as the Haute Touche Zoological Park. From Châteauroux, it's 27 and 28 kilometres to Saint-Chartier and Argenton-sur-Creuse respectively, and about 65 to the famed ZooParc de Beauval, home to almost 6,000 animals living across 30 hectares.
