Keen to take a walk to work up an appetite for your evening of seafood platters and Champagne? Start with a stroll along the canal towpath connecting Dinan and Léhon (both 10 minutes’ drive), take a lakeside wander at Étang de Bétineuc (15 minutes) or marvel at man-made structures at the locks of Les 11 écluses hédé-bazouges (25 minutes). And if that’s not enough, the GR34 (Sentier des Douaniers) runs for about 1200 miles along the coast of Brittany… You don’t have to do the whole path to experience the Brittany coast though – you could instead just pick one of its top spots. Places like Saint-Malo and Cancale (35 minutes) are lovely for some seaside town time, with Fort la Latte/Château de La Roche Goyon (an hour) bringing the wild and windswept vibes. And of course Mont Saint-Michel is only 45 minutes away too. Don’t fancy travelling far? Stick to Dinan (10 minutes), wandering through the Old Town and doing a circuit of the ramparts, visiting the château and Basilique Saint-Sauveur and taking in some history at Musée 39-45 or Musée du Rail. There’s a lovely market for your fireside snacks back at base too.
