What a super Saône-et-Loire spot – Camping Moulin De Collonge is in a particularly peaceful location surrounded by vineyard-covered hills and with a small river running alongside the site adding to the quiet rural vibe.
As well as being attractive in its own right, this is a fine base for touring the Burgundy area, whether you fancy hiking, cycling, exploring all the vineyards or taking in caves, castles and other historic spots. Château de Cormatin, Cluny Abbey and the Grottes d’Azé are among the top sights to visit nearby, and cyclists can join a greenway for traffic-free pedals about 200 metres from the site.
Not in the mood to get out and about? No worries – there are plenty of things to keep you entertained on site, including a fishing pond, a covered swimming pool (with paddling pool and whirlpool), a pétanque court and a play area with table tennis and a trampoline.
On the practical front, there are washing-up and laundry sinks, a wifi connection, a workspace and well-kept bathroom blocks. The site also has a food shop and a bakery, along with a restaurant that’s open throughout high season for full meals and takeaway pizzas. The flower-covered restaurant terrace looks out to the lake and river, and makes an excellent spot for a relaxed early-evening drink or two.

The southern Burgundy area is a lovely one to explore on hikes, bike rides (perhaps on the greenway 200 metres from the site) or horse riding outings (there’s a stable about 10 minutes’ drive away). Lots of the local walks and bike rides will take you through the area’s vineyards, several of which will let you stop in for a sample or some shopping.
The scenery isn’t all above ground, so make plans to explore underground at the Grottes de Blanot (half an hour’s drive) or Grottes d’Azé (35 minutes). Back up at surface level, some of the top sights to visit include the elegant Château de Cormatin (15 minutes), the former Benedictine monastery of Cluny Abbey (half an hour) and the atmospheric village of Taizé (20 minutes), home to a quiet spiritual community.
For days out with the kids, head up into the trees at Acrogivry the "Forest Adventure” (20 minutes), try out all the rides at Parc des Combes (45 minutes) or see exotic animals at Touroparc Zoo (an hour).
