On a peaceful farm by the Aure river, surrounded by the lush agricultural landscape of Calvados, Aire de la Ferme Froide is a pretty sweet spot to explore this historic area of northern France. Remote it might feel, but the site is less than 10 kilometres from Bayeux (easily accessed via the nearby D67) and about a half-hour drive from the coast. And what a coast this is. The wide beaches are excellent for building sandcastles and running around in an attempt to fly kites (cue – one would hope – happy children); however, in 1944 these sandy stretches were also the theatre for the Allied invasion of Normandy, which means that there’s a lot to pique the interest of grown-ups (or of anyone who’s into World War II history). This includes museums like the Memorial Museum of Omaha Beach (25 minutes) and memorials like the British Normandy Memorial (half an hour), as well as the beaches themselves – from Omaha to Utah (half an hour’s drive and 50 minutes, respectively). Back at the site, a game of pétanque or communing with the farm animals (gentle cows and inquisitive goats, among others) ought to help raise your spirits after a day visiting sombre historical landmarks. Dogs are welcome, as long as they are well behaved and kept on a lead around the livestock. Owners Mickael and Stéphanie are on hand to suggest alternative activities (hot-air balloon flight, anyone?) and sights, from the early 13th-century Mondaye Abbey (five minutes, or a 20-minute walk) to amusement parks like Bayeux AVENTURE (15 minutes).

喜欢 La Ferme Froide is lovely quiet and relaxing little place. We enjoyed our time there. Thank you Stephanie for being so helpful and caring. I would definitely recommend La Ferme Froide. Electric hook up. Grey water dispenser, fresh water refill. Plenty of hot water and free shower which is great.

不喜欢 As it's a farm it's a little bit out of town but it's only a little drive away from shops and restaurants. Bayeux is a lovely town to visit and not too far away. We had a lovely galette and coffee at little restaurant, sorry I didn't get the name. We also visited Omaha Beach and Cherbourg town before sailing home.

不喜欢 Facilities all in need of urgent attention. One toilet with no seat! Not clean! Poor position for motor home emptying and filling water

喜欢 Good size level pitches, very peaceful and tranquil. The host is very friendly and is very helpful. Very handy for the ferry about thirty minutes to the port.

喜欢 Campsite was compact but fantastic close to Bayeux lots to see and do. War museum and big town to look around. No Wifi but i liked that.

不喜欢 The facilities need a major update - only one toilet and one shower. Washing dishes sink needs upgrade.

喜欢 Ruhig, übersichtlich, tolles Gras, fester Standplatz, gepflegter Rasen, liebe zum Detail erkennbar, verschiedene Tiere, gut um auch mal die eigenen Sanitäranlagen zu testen und in Betrieb zu nehmen. Platzverwaltung eher etwas praktisch organisiert.
Anfahrt eher etwas abgelegen bisweilen schmale Zufahrten [enge französische Straßen] aber Gespannfähig.
