Weave a scenic and historic Normandy holiday with a colourful stay at Camping Municipal des Bords de l'Aure, an easy riverside walk away from the town centre of Bayeux and its world-famed tapestry telling the story of the Battle of Hastings and the Norman invasion of England. More recent history can be had around the Normandy D-Day beaches, 10 kilometres away, or you could opt for the many outdoor activities in the region, like the 36-hole golf course at Omaha beach, or the horse riding and watersports centres also within 10 kilometres. Even more modernly, the Festyland amusement park is 20 kilometres away. The site has bikes to hire to take to the town or the coast. Also around for guests are an indoor pool, playground, table tennis, table football, pétanque court and volleyball court. Wifi is available throughout.

喜欢: This is a beautiful well cared for spotless site, immaculate pitches with manicured hedging, close to shops and the town and well positioned to visit the beaches and D Day experiences. Pitches are a good size and excellent facilities. I definitely recommend ordering bread for the mornings. Unexpected good free Wi-Fi.

不喜欢: The only downside is the 5 amp electric hook- up but on saying that we managed.

喜欢: This campsite was a well kept site, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The entrance to the campsite was a bit tight for caravans. You needed to go to the end of the road where there is a well designed turning point for caravans. The site needs to find a way to stop people parking at the end of the road/cul-de-sac as I had to go the wrong way around the turning point as there was a car and caravan parked at the end of the road which made it awkward to turn the correct way.

不喜欢: Pitch only had a 5amp power supply. I think This should be a minimum of 6amp as I was unable to use my hot water system set at 1000kWh and a 900w kettle at the same time.

喜欢: Site was well laid out, very clean and tidy. There were plenty of facilities - toilets, showers, washing up and laundry. It was a 10 minute walk into Bayeux which was great.

不喜欢: It took us quite a while to find the bins! We thought there was a shop on site but couldn't find that either

喜欢: The camping pitch is located in a perfect location where you can find the supermarket (Lidl) nearby. The pitch is perfect and the sanitary is well cleaned. Not many activities were found but there's a swimming pool nearby and is included with the campsite.

不喜欢: The pitch size is a bit moderate for a 5-person tent.

Take the peaceful stroll or quick bike ride from the site into the centre of Bayeux a kilometre away, home of course to the mammoth Bayeux Tapestry, the 68 metres of 11th-century tapestry depicting the Normandy invasion of England and the subsequent Battle of Hastings. Also in town is the 11th-century Bayeaux Cathedral, a British war cemetery, the Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy and the MAHB art museum, with paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, porcelain and Bayeux lace from throughout the centuries. Another D-Day museum is at Arromanches-les-Bains, 12 kilometres north-east of Bayeux, and the Normandy landing beaches of Omaha, Juno and Utah are all within 40 kilometres. The Caen Memorial, commemorating World War II and the Battle for Caen, is 25 kilometres away. Outdoor activities are easily sorted with local horse riding, a couple of kilometres from the site, or with watersports including paddleboarding, sailing and sea kayaking at the nearby Normandy beaches, 10 kilometres away. You could also spend a day at the Ponds of Planquery fishing pools (15 kilometres), or take the kids to the Festyland amusement park (20 kilometres), themed around the events of 1066 and all that.
