Pool or beach, beach or pool? What a holiday dilemma to have – but at Camping Le Lac you’ve got every right simply to answer ‘both, thanks’ for an easy way to solve it. That's possible because this Aquitaine site is about a 10-minute drive from the beaches of Mimizan Plage, which has around 10 kilometres of sand to its name, with space for surfers as well as family swims. In July and August, the site runs a daily shuttle from the site to the nearby beaches and shops, so you don't need to arrange your own transportation. Those aren’t the only options when it comes to water, either – as the name suggests, this site is on the shores of Lake Aureilhan, where you can hire paddleboards and kayaks or just chill out with a picnic on the lakeside. And it’s also got its own extensive aquatic area on site, with a paddling pool, splash zone and Jacuzzi as well as a lovely 450 m² main swimming pool. There’s plenty to do away from the water, as well – the site has a miniature golf course, a pétanque court, a volleyball court and table tennis as well as a play area and various organised activities for the kids (five days a week in July and August for ages 4 to 14). Bikes can be hired on site to help you get around easily, and the reception team are on hand to give you advice on places to go and things to do in the area. Time for a rest and a little pick-me-up? The snack bar is open throughout the day, providing coffees at breakfast time, ice creams in the afternoon and pizzas in the evening. There’s also a poolside bar where you can grab an aperitif to accompany your sunbathing.

So… to the beach? Mimizan Plage (10 minutes’ drive) is a lovely place to spend the day, either playing in the sand or taking a lesson so you can join the surfers that flock to this part of the world to hit the waves. There are several other beaches along this stretch of coast too – but none are quite as impressive as the huge Dune du Pilat (an hour), the tallest dune in Europe at 110 metres high. Inland watery options include the lakes of Biscarosse (25 minutes) and Sanguinet (35 minutes), both of which have lifeguarded swimming areas in calm water. Away from the water, there’s horse riding (10 minutes) or treetop trails at Landes Adventure Park (10 minutes’ walk). For a change of pace, slow things down on a visit to Écomusée de Marquèze (35 minutes), where you can learn all about the life of the Landes in the 19th century at an interactive museum that’s also got a vintage steam train to ride on.

喜欢 We liked everything there, the location, on a really beautiful Lake, we went on a Pedal boat on it and jumped in from that, the swimming Pool Area, very Well kept and Kind of luxurious, the site itself with Lots of trees, bathrooms totally fine, Bar and Restaurant really good, not expensive and super friendly Staff, live music in the evening, and a good shuttle Service to the ocean for people with no car like us.

不喜欢 We did not need such a big spot, there should be smaller and cheaper spaces for backpackers.

Noise eventually stopped at 11:00-11:30pm.
Big size plots.
Good washing facilities.

不喜欢 Toilet with no seat nor toilet paper & no maintenance. No lights in bathrooms.

Summer camp was noisy & heard of a monitor getting drunk and not knowing where he was at 6:00 am.

喜欢 Le cadre forestier avec de grands espaces , de grands emplacements ombragés, un accueil chaleureux, une ambiance générale joyeuse, un petit snack sympa avec parfois des animations, une piscine agreable avec de nombreux sièges et transats, des sanitaires bien entretenus et bien adaptés au nombre de campeurs, aucun délai d'attente pour douches le matin, eau toujours chaude, excellent rapport qualité prix
