What’s on the menu at Camping ATC Routes du Monde La Hume? Direct access to a sandy beach, sublime sunsets over Arcachon Bay and plenty of oyster-eating in Gujan-Mestras, 15 minutes’ journey away by public transport, for sure. Water activities, coastal walks and more mouth-watering cuisine are likely too. You see, this small, quiet and family-friendly campsite is based in La Hume in Gironde, just five minutes’ walk from the town's beach, which is lined with tamarisk and pine trees. Access is through a gate located at the bottom of the site, so families, couples and friends have easy access to the fine sand and the water (which handily has supervised swimming). You might want to leave your car behind, as the site is also a 10-minute walk and a five-minute train (in total, a 15-minute journey) from the centre of Arcachon (a shopping hub with gorgeous 19th-century villas and a lively shopping quarter). In the other direction, Gujan-Mestras (a 10-minute walk and a five-minute train – 15 minutes in total) is a hub for oyster farming and has clusters of tasty oyster restaurants. Adventurous sorts can jump right into watersports in Arcachon Bay, whether they fancy sailing on a catamaran, windsurfing or surfing. No matter how wet or wild the activities, back at base, this peaceful place is a top spot to recharge your batteries (with a belly full of oysters, of course, or something else tasty that you’ve sourced from the restaurants within five minutes’ walk of the site).

喜欢: Lovely friendly welcome from reception. Could choose own pitch. Toilets/ washrooms adequately cleaned. Had a great warm shower. Beach just outside the side gate. 10 minute walk to bar/ restaurant/ bakery.

不喜欢: Only WiFi signal is by reception.
No toilet paper or soap in the toilets.
Electric supply is very poor. Had to turn off the fridge to use the kettle… kept tripping. You can only leave and re-enter the site when reception is open 8am-12pm and 5pm -7.30pm. after 8pm you have no chance. By the beach…. It is not a beach it is a tidal estuary

喜欢: Pitches were really big, plenty of toilets.showers worked well.
2 minute walk to the beach. All you need within a 5 minute walk loads to do in the area. Loved it.

不喜欢: Could do with more showers but we went quiet season (may) so we didn't have to wait to use the shower. Take your toilet roll with you. Mens toilets didn't have seats which is normal for certain parts of france.

不喜欢: It was difficult to find as it didn’t have the same name as the pitch up site. The site was not well kept with small pitches. The welcome was not friendly or helpfully the electricity needed really long cables to reach - too long for us. And then they kicked us out at 9.30 which meant a very unrelaxing morning

喜欢: Calme, proche bassin, personnel à l' écoute, restaurants proche en bord de mer à prix abordable et de qualité. Nous avions un meeting pro en visioconférence et on nous a dépanné d' un endroit calme avec chaise et table à l' abri des regards.

不喜欢: Horaires de chek UP tardive, difficulté pour sortir la voiture du camping si accueil fermé.

Kids (and big kids) can greet the lambs, calves and piglets at La Coccinelle (35 minutes’ walk). The farm park also has slides, log flume and rollercoasters for a bigger thrill. With more leisure parks and inland lakes in Arcachon (15 minutes’ journey by public transport), this site is set up nicely for family breaks. Being positioned right on the coastal path, there are lots of places your feet can take you, too. Wild landscapes include the Dune of Pilat (around two hours and 20 minutes’ walk), the tallest sand dune in Europe, or the Réserve Ornithologique Du Teich (an hour and 45 minutes’ walk or 15 minutes’ drive), a favourite dwelling spot for a variety of birds. Take the ferry over to Le Phare du Cap Ferret (two hours’ and 35 minutes’ walk and ferry ride) to get some fabulous views of the bay (after climbing 258 steps). Port de la Teste (45 minutes’ walk) is closer by and packed with oyster farmers lugging around oyster sacks, as well as a fair few waterfront oyster restaurants.
