How splendid is this... Camping Les Poutiroux is a swish park in a quiet green setting, within 20 minutes’ drive of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil and Le Bugue. Exploring the Périgord region is simple from here, as the park's within an hour’s drive of the handsome historic settlements of Sarlat-la-Canéda, Périgueux and Bergerac, and within easy reach of outdoorsy stuff like canoeing, golf and horse riding. Set across three shaded hectares, the site is family run by friendly Pascal and Sandrine, who've set it up for serene family stays. Leisure facilities include two seasonal heated pools surrounded by a solarium and sun loungers; two playgrounds with a trampoline to keep tiddlies topped up with amusement, and a games room with a pinball machine and table football, a TV room, a pétanque court and a ping pong table. For sedate spells, a free wifi service around the reception and the bar areas is also at guests’ disposal, or you can head to reception to peruse the tourist info there and plan forthcoming days of sightseeing around the area’s prehistoric caves, castles, museums and pretty villages. A grocery on site sells regional produce plus ice creams and other snacky treats, and you can pick up more light bites at the bar as well as tasty pizzas to eat in or take away. Freshly baked bread and pastries are available every morning in high season; just order the evening before. For shops and other amenities plus hiking trails and gardens to potter around, the lovely little village of Limeuil is a five-minute drive (or half-hour walk) away.

First set off on a stroll to nearby Limeuil – its Panoramic Gardens and themed gardens are splendid for a stroll around, and there are several woodland trails to wander along too. Throughout the summer traditional craft workshops there teach all ages everything from basket making and weaving to fabric dyeing, felting and more. A wee bit further afield is the aquarium at Le Bugue for the goggling of fishy specimens. Also close to Camping Les Poutiroux you’ll also be able to get stuck into river-based activities like canoeing and river swimming, or out of the water a golf course, horse riding and a treetop adventure park are within easy reach too. To explore the locale’s historic settlements, Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil and Le Bugue are both within 20 minutes’ drive and Sarlat-la-Canéda, Périgueux, Bergerac, are all well within an hour.
