On the eastern fringes of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia), Ty Tandderwen Caravan Park is a family-run site with spacious (and well-spaced) grass and hardstanding pitches. There’s nothing but grazing land and wooded hills all around, plus mountains in the distance; and the only sounds are birdsong and the gentle rippling of the River Dee, which runs just a couple of fields away. By the way, remember to pack your rod, for both fly-fishing and angling are allowed here. Dogs are welcome too, and they might wag their tails in delight when you take them to Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid; five minutes’ drive), where they might join you on a swim or on your paddleboard exploration of the shore, or walk by your side as you stroll along forested trails, making regular stops to take in views of the water. Other hikes might lead you to the forest at Aberhirnant (10 minutes), Rhiwagor Waterfall (half an hour), or to viewpoints like Moel y Garnedd (15 minutes) and Cwm Cynfal (half an hour). Back on site, while the children burn what energy they have left in the play area, you can fire up the barbecue, having sourced your provisions in Bala town (10 minutes), where there are also several restaurants. Wherever you eat (on site or in town), set aside a good hour or so before bed for a spot of stargazing – Eryri is an International Dark Sky Reserve, and you should be in for a starry treat on a clear night.

喜欢 The site is beautifully clean, has quiet times which were well respected. A small shop opens at set times and the facilities of showers, toilets, pot wash and laundry were perfect. A small free book library also on site, great stay, thoroughly enjoyed. Free WiFi throughout the tent field too! We were 2 sisters on a 3 night break (no husbands or children!) Wonderful experience, would definitely stay again!

不喜欢 Only 3 shower cubicles, although rarely had to wait. We managed to time our showers so as not to have to queue.

喜欢 Clean showers and toilets, we were close to the swings so could always see our little boy from the tent, the pitch was a great size, the onsite shop was really handy, the lady on site was always helpful and lovely! We will definitely be coming back again

喜欢 Lovely site! Immaculate toilet & shower facilities. Swings in middle of field is nice touch so the kids can play within your sight.
Elin was friendly and welcoming, just a call away if anything was needed from the site shop.
Cute lake over the field for fishing and paddling. Spent lots of time there. Another cute addition is the pack of alpacas at the entrance.
Fantastic location - 5-6 min drive to Bala. Would recommend 👌

The industrial heritage of North Wales comes alive at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes) with guided tours of the former mines, where you can also have a subterranean round of miniature golf. If you’re after the sweet kick of adrenaline, there are also thrilling rides like the Titan zipline, which will have you flying above the area’s distinctive slate landscape. It’s a much gentler vibe at Betws-y-Coed (45 minutes), a pretty village stretching between the rivers Conwy and Llugwy, with pretty woodland walks (including the family-friendly Tan Dinas Path) leading to stone bridges and waterfalls like Rhaeadr Ewynnol / Swallow Falls.
