With great views by day and dark skies at night, Orchid Meadows in Ceredigion is a splendid spot for people who like wildlife. Set on 25 acres of peaceful nature reserve and countryside, it welcomes solo travellers, families and groups of friends. Use it as a springboard to explore west Wales. Between the Cambrian Mountains and Cardigan Bay, the site is half an hour’s drive from Aberaeron and the Ceredigion Coast Path, 45 minutes from New Quay and 55 minutes from Llangrannog. Upland scenery can be tracked down inland. In the meadows, guests can search for wild orchids and insects or rest a while and watch the red kites and buzzards overhead or the stonechats flitting through the gorge. At sunset, you may spot a barn owl or hear a tawny owl. Barbecues are permitted on site. Alternatively, fire up one of the pizza ovens or finish the day with a hot drink or glass of wine around the fire bowl (with starry skies above when the conditions are right). From autumn through to summer, Orchid Meadows can serve you breakfast (planned or last-minute). There are pubs, shops, cafés and a farm shop in Tregaron, five minutes’ drive away.
