Now here’s a handy location indeed for seeing lots of Scottish sights all in one break – Gallowhill Camping and Caravan Park is on the edge of Kinross, an excellent Perthshire spot for getting out to explore the likes of Edinburgh, Stirling, St Andrews and Perth. In fact, the park is pretty much in the centre of the area bounded by these four cities, with none of them more than an hour’s drive away. The M90 (running north-south) and A91 (east-west) are both close by, so journeys should be fairly straightforward – and the proximity of the roads also makes this a useful park to consider if you need a stopover on a longer journey. Having Kinross town centre just down the road (about 20 minutes’ walk/five minutes’ drive) means that you can easily use the park-and-ride services to travel around without driving, and there are plenty of amenities close by, including supermarkets, takeaways and places to eat out. Loch Leven is 10 minutes’ drive away for fishing and walks/bike rides on the 13-mile lakeside trail. It’s not just a handy location for travel, though – the park itself is well set up too, with facilities including a play park and an area for football. There’s also a bothy (good for hunkering down in wet weather) with tourist info, kettle, microwave and phone charger points. Laundry facilities are provided as well, along with toilets, showers and a separate accessible bathroom. Dogs are welcome at Gallowhill, and there’s a private woodland exercise area where they can have a good run about.

喜欢: The site is basic and close to town.

不喜欢: No WIFI, although advertised as available on pitch. Could do with the toilets and bothy being updated(looks about 20 years old). It's also close to the motorway so if your a light sleeper probably not advised.

喜欢: Staff were really nice & informative Dog walk Football pitch & park for kids

不喜欢: £1 for 6 minute shower which went from freezing to scalding hot, scandalous charging extra for that. My children both burnt themselves with the water when it got so hot! Got charged £5 more when arrived compared to what I was told on pitch up when I booked. Located next to a busy road so you can hear traffic. Thankfully we only were staying 1 night. Wi-Fi didn’t work

喜欢: The convenience of being near to a central road good for exploring the highlands if you need an affordable basic site it’s ideal for families or solo folk anyone on a strict budget

不喜欢: Paying a £1 for six minute shower which did not work in my case I think the box was full of coins?!!! It would have been better if we had more shielding from the elements as it was open and no tree shielding as it had further over on site were caravans and motor homes were and M6 could be seen and heard but I took my hearing Sid’s out and for me it was bliss

喜欢: Great location - both in terms of getting to other areas around Perth and further afield and also location of facilities on site Welcoming staff and have a passion for making the site the best it can be Private dog walk - not many camp sites have a section where dogs can run off the lead so this was perfect Well kept and clean

喜欢: Very quiet site , nice little dog walk

不喜欢: Facilities were not great. Could not get Wi-Fi despite it ring advertised as having it. Shower block was extreme cold and the £1 charge for a shower was a bit excessive Also I had to use £2 because the water temperature ranged from freezing to scalding so not much of the 6 minutes was actually useable

Get to know Perth (20 minutes’ drive) on a self-guided Treasure Hunt Trail, or head further afield to the historic university town of St Andrews (50 minutes), which pulls in visitors to explore the cathedral and castle, or play golf on the fabled Old Course. When big-city lights come calling, head for the museums, art galleries and upscale shops of Edinburgh (55 minutes). You’ll be in pole position to learn something of Scottish history at Gallowhill; Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned in foreboding waterside Lochleven Castle (10 minutes) in 1567, while Scone Palace (half an hour) was once the crowning place of Scottish kings and is now open for guided tours of lush interiors. Former home of King James IV, Stirling Castle (45 minutes) has an ornate Great Hall restored to its 16th-century splendour and interactive displays in its Victorian-era kitchens. If you’re rather potter about in the fresh air, stride across Fife hillsides in Lomond Hills Regional Park (25 minutes), or try archery and axe-throwing at Kinross Activity Centre (10 minutes). Keen on wildlife? You can often see red squirrels near the visitor centre at RSPB Loch Leven (10 minutes).
