Fancy a taste of village life as it once was? Book a stay at Wedmore Village Farm, on the edge of the Somerset village of Wedmore, and you’ll be staying at a not-for-profit site that supports a community farm project – a place that grows food for local food banks and has developed into a hub for wellbeing gardening and community events.
It’s a wonderful project, and a wonderful place to stay too – the campsite is small, clean and neatly kept, with fabulous views over the Mendip Hills. Facilities have been nicely thought out as well – not only will you have access to a fridge, a shower and a compost toilet, but also a barbecue area (with a ceramic ‘egg’ barbecue provided) and a wood-fired sauna for relaxing and sociable moments.
Pitched up here among the wildflowers and meadow grasses you’re likely to feel like you’re deep in the countryside – and while that’s a lovely thing, it’s also good to note that the village is very close by. In fact, it’s a five-minute walk to the recreation ground (with a playground, tennis courts and sports bar), or 15 minutes to the village centre (which has indie shops and a nice selection of places to eat, from a café to a gastropub).
Looking a little further afield, local outings might take you to places like Wells, Glastonbury, Bristol and Bath, to explore landscapes like Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole, or to hit the beach in Burnham-on-Sea.
This site is a member of the Greener Camping Club, so you’ll be automatically enrolled on booking; if you’re already a member, make sure to select the relevant extra to receive the discount.
