Boho glamping accommodation on an 18-acre farm, anyone? North Thorne Glamping has an enviable setting next to Wistlandpound Reservoir, on the edge of Exmoor National Park and close to North Devon beaches. This stylish, family-run site is set in secluded and peaceful pasture and has spectacular views over Devon’s hills, reaching from Exmoor to Dartmoor. There is a natural pond in the centre of the field where ducks and geese splash around, and it’s south-facing so you feel the benefits of long, light (and hopefully sunny) days as well as incredible star-filled night skies. Each unit is decked out with a comfy double bed and 2/4 singles, and they’re all decorated in shabby-chic style. There’s a private dining area outside, with vintage crockery and cutlery, a gas cooker and seating, as well as a barbecue so you can cook up al fresco meals and chill around the campfire. First bonus: you have a private and individually styled shower room in the facilities barn, where you’ll also find a communal kitchen. Second bonus: you can challenge the family to matches on the tennis court, and a second repurposed barn has a hang-out area for you to get together over table tennis and super-size traditional games like Jenga if the weather turns sour. Third (and not one you read often) bonus: most mornings, you’ll hear the sounds of jungle chatter, and no, you’re not mad. Exmoor Zoo is a few fields away and the monkeys, gibbons and baboons like to give you a wake-up call.

喜欢 Had a really lovely stay at North Thorne. The location is perfect. Far away enough to feel like you've really disconnected, but not so far that going anywhere is difficult. The safari tent is situated in a really big green field overlooking the kitchen barn and the valley beyond. The skies are amazingly dark and the zoo animal noises are a unique feature! Beds are super comfy and a choice of three places to sit with food was a luxury. Lovely shabby chic decor and no chance of being cold (there was a 15 tog duvet!). With a fridge to ourselves in the barn and our own lockable bathroom, it was nice to leave our bits and pieces by the sink. Plus the kettle is handy for a cuppa. Hosts are genuinely lovely and very happy to help out. Charging electronics is best done in the barn, so worth bringing your chargers (did not feel worried about leaving things to charge there). But probably worth bringing a charge pack and a rechargeable lantern or two. :)

喜欢 The location was incredible - off the beaten track, properly away from it all (but within an easy drive of all the beaches we could dream of!), and with the darkest skies I've seen for a long time. The star watching was dazzling! Such a special place.

喜欢 We had the best time at North Thorne in a safari tent. We stayed with our 2 year old twins and 12yr old son and they all loved the holiday. Sarah and Andrew were so friendly and brilliant hosts.

The tents are perfect, the beds are extremely comfortable and even though the weather wasn’t on our side, we still felt like we had luxury and comfort whilst Glamping. The individual bathrooms are incredible!

We loved hearing the gibbons and wolves from the neighbouring Exmoor Zoo, it was so magical at night to sit out on the decking and listen to the wildlife.

We can’t wait to return again next summer!!

喜欢 A truly beautiful campsite. Small, well-looked after, with the most lovely views of the countryside. It was so peaceful and the beds so comfortable I had the best sleep in ages.

I absolutely loved the private bathroom facilities, it really made such a difference. We had our own key and only our family had use of that particular bathroom.

Each family is also allocated a fridge in the communal kitchen area.

I can't praise this campsite enough.

喜欢 We loved our stay at North Thorne. The whole experience was fabulous. The safari tent was spacious, clean and very well equipped. Our allocated shower/ toilet was also very clean and a great addition.
The owners were so welcoming and accommodating, we will definitely be returning next year 💫

喜欢 Such a lovely, peaceful place with amazing views and loads to see and do nearby. We especially loved the little forest around the reservoir just below the campsite – perfect for the kids to run wild and pick blackberries and raspberries. We stayed for eight nights and didn’t want to leave.
The safari tent was spacious and comfortable, and the facilities were great. We were welcomed with warmth – and even a delicious homemade cake, which was a lovely touch. Thank you!

After you’ve met up with the noisy primates at Exmoor Zoo (10 minutes’ drive), treat the kids to mini-train rides and animatronic dinosaurs at Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park (15 minutes) or head straight for the beach at Broadsands (20 minutes) for bucket-and-spade type family fun in the waves. Surfers, there’s a choice of famous beaches to choose from. Woolacombe, Croyde (you can go coasteering here too), Saunton Sands and Westward Ho! are all less than a 40-minute drive away, and each has surf schools and equipment rental too. You can try your hand at paddleboarding or kayaking in Combe Martin (15 minutes), or whizz along the coastline in high-speed ribs from Ilfracombe (25 minutes). For the landlubbers among you, Exmoor National Park (10 minutes) is a haven of cycling and walking trails through oak forests and heather-clad moorland, or you can be on the golf course in less than 20 minutes.
