Liking the sound of hunkering down in a bell tent somewhere in gorgeous Devon countryside? That’s just what you can do at Butterfly Meadow, where a small number of pre-erected units are ready and waiting for your stay. Everything else, from camp beds to towels, cooking utensils and barbecue equipment, is down to you to bring – oh and don’t forget torches for after dark, as this place is firmly off-grid. Butterfly Meadow has an individual parking space for each tent – access is via a mown track through the field – and basic facilities include flushing toilets with a cold-water basin and a fresh-water tap for drinking, all a short walk away from the grass pitches. There are shops and pubs within a 15 minutes’ drive, and when you arrive back to your cosy base after a day’s adventure on south-coast beaches or walking in Dartmoor National Park, there’s a communal campfire to gather around and swap stories with your new camping besties.
