Thorn Campsite is a secluded spot in Devon countryside, near Jurassic Coast beaches and seaside resorts – and here’s the thing – it comes with its very own golf course. Yes, golfers pack your clubs and come to enjoy a few rounds on a nine-hole rural course. The flat and neatly manicured camping field has electric hook-ups, loos, a washing-up area and showers, and it’s just a short stroll from the golf course. The clubhouse cleverly doubles as a snack bar with additional loos and showers for site guests, and there’s a wifi connection if you need to keep friends informed of your golfing successes. But it’s not just about the golfing. Families, couples and dogs are also welcome at Thorn, as there’s plenty hereabouts to keep everyone entertained. Take the kids rummaging for fossils along the Jurassic Coast (10 minutes’ drive), and if they have behaved really, really well, the best treat ever is feeding time at The Donkey Sanctuary (five minutes). You can choose from an abundance of lovely beaches along the coastline (Salcombe Regis and Seaton to name just two – both less than 15 minutes’ drive), and the South West Coast Path (10 minutes) reveals swathes of rugged headlands for long-distance hikers. Sidmouth supermarkets will keep you fed and watered, and if you want a night off from cooking, there are traditional pubs in Branscombe (10 minutes) and a whole host of restaurants in Budleigh Salterton (25 minutes).

喜欢 A large site with lots of space for the tents and kids to play.
Dogs were very welcome.
The owner was very friendly and relaxed.
It was nice not to have to rush to pack up to leave.

不喜欢 Can’t say there was anything I disliked.
The showers could have been a bit better, but they were clean as were the toilets.

喜欢 Relaxed atmosphere, space of pitches, ability to have campfire & collect wood from hedges, friendly owners, toilets & showers (one in driving range field ok but take own loo roll), bin facilities (far from camping but ideal as don't have to see or smell, location, price. Can also have a try of golf golf course & mini golf for a very low price (no need to take own clubs!)

Quiet relaxed setting - close enough to town to get supplies but far enough away to be quiet.

喜欢 The quiet surroundings and calm that the golf course bought, husband loved that he could roll out of bed to golf! That the signal was limited it ment we could fully switch off and enjoy the calm!

不喜欢 No hot water for washing dishes had to decant from the showers in the limited time there was warm water, the cleanliness of the other campers let the site down which was a shame
