Dartmoor Shepherd's Huts

喜欢 We really enjoyed our one night stay at the shepherd’s hut. The beds were comfortable, hot water and we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Our only regret is that we only booked one night we could easily have stayed for the whole week! It was a lovely place to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

不喜欢 There were only a couple of small things that could make the stay even better. A small bedside or reading light would be helpful, as the main lighting wasn’t quite bright enough to comfortably read in bed. It would also be useful to have somewhere to hang towels and clothes, particularly in the bathroom.

喜欢 This is a gorgeous campsite in a stunning location right on the moors. The pitches are spacious. Being next to a little stream was lovely and there was lots of birdsong. Having a washing up station inside with two sinks was great and there was also lots of useful information. We were able to walk onto the moors from the campsite and the views were stunning.
The campsite was also very quiet. I wish we could have stayed longer so we will definitely return.

不喜欢 The toilets didn’t have any toilet roll in one cubicle (however I always take some just in case) and the hand towel dispensers were empty. The showers were powerful but soaked my clothes that were hanging on the back of the door! I was more gentle the next time! The rubbish bins were also very full and over flowing. This really didn’t detract from the stay though as compared to other sites it was really lovely.

喜欢 Cleanliness of the hut/site, it was also fully equipped with everything we needed.

Peacefulness (there’s a no music policy which makes a huge difference)

Scenery/location is tranquil

Highly recommend if you just want to get back to nature and escape the rat race!

不喜欢 As others have mentioned ….a hook on the bathroom door would be very helpful for towels!
Everything else was perfect though!

喜欢 Super clean, small size, sheltered with lots of trees, dark skies, no traffic noise and great location for walking, and local facilities - including pub, shop, tea room and amazing second hand charity bookshop. Good facilities including on site fridge and good phone charging lockers.

不喜欢 Pitches though a decent size are quite close together so this magnifies noise and other issues. Lack of on site presence of owners/staff (we didn't see them the whole time) - just a walk around of an evening/morning at busy times would perhaps have done more than just signs at supporting compliance with rules re dogs and noise which undermined our enjoyment on some eves. Appreciate it's a tricky balance and people don't like to feel policed but people didn't even seem to have read the rules re dogs when I raised it with them. It was much better on the Sunday eve than Fri/Sat.

喜欢 Loved the quirkyness of the huts. The shared wash and toilet facilities were super. The site was clean and well signposted.

不喜欢 Crockery could do with updating or at least checking over in the hut.
Rubbish and recycling instructions could be a little clearer.

喜欢 My daughter and I had a lovely 3 nights stay. The hut was beautifully presented, clean and had clever storage. The beds were very comfortable with proper mattresses. We loved how beautiful, peaceful and quiet the campsite was and would love to visit again.

不喜欢 We were a little confused which hut was ours on arrival as we were tired after a long journey and expected our name on the door.
