Want to feel like you’re getting a secluded and peaceful getaway without having to give up being close to other people? At Dartmoor Halfway Inn, a family-friendly site in the grounds of a pub-restaurant 10 minutes’ drive from the town of Newton Abbot in Devon, South West England, you get the best of both worlds. Two minutes from the edge of Dartmoor National Park, The Halfway Inn is well placed for exploration – you can walk, cycle, ride, canoe or climb your way around the park, travel from scenic village to scenic village, or learn about the history of the area. The site and pub are dog friendly too, so ramblers should feel free to bring their canine companions along for the walk. On site, kick back by the river Lemon, which passes just behind the campgrounds, or relax in the open green field – kids who aren’t quite ready to sit still for the evening can burn off any residual energy in the on-site playground. When the whole family is ready for dinner, stroll over to the Halfway Inn for a slap-up meal, then knock back a few beers or a couple of glasses of wine – or juice for the kids – and toddle back to where you’re spending the night less than 200 metres away. If you’d prefer a change of scenery, there are plenty of other restaurants in Newton Abbot and within 10 minutes’ drive of Halfway Inn.

Nice size gravel pitch with grass on the side

喜欢: Everything the location was beautiful. The people in the pub was lovely and even made ballon animals for the younger kids. Food was brilliant. Wonderful atmosphere. Every one that was staying was really friendly and lovely.

不喜欢: Lack of mobile service. But worked well in the pub. Good to get away from devices.

喜欢: The pitch was a good size and very well maintained, the pub and beer gardens were lovely, the site is ideally located for travelling around

不喜欢: The road infrint of the site was really noisy at night and is a high speed road , no phone service at all on site and WiFi wasn't available at all

不喜欢: Constant terrible smell throughout our stay , possibly from waste For the price wireless in the site would be good a there was no mobile phone signal resulting in family members not being able to contact us Pitch was not level even after trying to level up with blocks

喜欢: Easy check in with good pitch sizes. Great location quiet while still being close to local shops. Good cooked breakfast meaty sausages and crispy hash browns.

不喜欢: Not enough toilets or showers for the campsite. Only one toilet and 2 showers each for men and women. The washing up station has no rain cover either.

喜欢: Lovely site with large pitch space. We stayed for 3 nights and used the restaurant on-site each night for drinks/food. Staff were friendly and helpful Food was lovely and tasty. Great portions and great value for money Would recommend booking a table for meals as it does get busy in the evenings. Clean and well maintained facilities

You can barely turn a corner in this part of Devon without coming face to face with a stately manor – Bradley, Compton Castle, Greenway, Castle Drogo, Coleton Fishacre, Cockington Court, Torre Abbey and Dartington Hall are all with 45 minutes’ drive, and a visit to the spectacular 16-sided A la Ronde, 35 minutes away, is highly recommended. Tipplers might like to make the trip to Buckfast Abbey outside Buckfastleigh (10 minutes), though you won’t be able to do tours or tastings at the factory. If the Abbey doesn’t get you steaming, head to the South Devon Railway and climb aboard the vintage train, or abandon alcohol-related puns altogether and head to the Buckfast Butterfly Farm and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary. Fawlty Towers fans will be keen to learn that Torquay is less than 30 minutes away. Although you can no longer visit the real-life hotel behind the comedy, there’s plenty to keep you entertained: follow the Agatha Christie Mile to get a glimpse of some of the spots that inspired the murder mystery maven, dive below the Devon coast in the prehistoric Kents Cavern, or play giant at Babbacombe Model Village.
