Higher Rew Touring Caravan and Camping Park

The Squires can truly be said to have tourism in the blood. Three generations of this Devonshire family have created a tried and tested holiday park deep in the scenic South Hams – Higher Rew Touring Caravan and Camping Park. Higher Rew Touring Caravan and Camping Park is just over a mile from South Sands, a sheltered beach that lies at the mouth of the Kingsbridge Estuary. Stop off at the beachfront café and tuck into some fish and chips while watching the waves roll in, or jump aboard the South Sands Ferry for a trip to the other side of the estuary. With the sweet village of Malborough half an hour away on foot and the splendid seaside town of Salcombe a 10-minute drive, it's easy to get out and about and explore these here hills. The vistas from Higher Rew Touring Caravan and Camping Park are pretty dandy as well – as soon as you arrive you'll have sea views, green hillsides and tree-lined valleys to marvel at. The facilities here give plenty of scope for blowing off steam – family doubles can be sorted down at the well-maintained tennis courts, while the kids can run (reasonably) amok at the tiddlers' play area. Practical perks like a freezer for ice packs, laundry room and on-site food shop may well come in handy too. A supermarket, pub and post office are also on hand in Malborough village centre.

Scuttle over to Kingsbridge (15 minutes' drive), a traditional market town, and poke around its art galleries, independent shops and Cookworthy Museum. Salcombe (10 minutes), meanwhile, is an upmarket seaside spot where you can pick up essentials like fresh ice cream, fine seafood and – this last one being very essential indeed – locally-produced gin. After pampering your taste buds, stop off for a soothing massage at Thurlestone Voyage Spa (20 minutes) – particularly recommendable if you've come here seeking quiet times with your other half. Follow all that relaxing up with a bracing round of golf in the salty sea air at Thurlestone Golf Club, a couple of minutes down the road. Want to keep the blood pumping? Make for Bantham (20 minutes) for surf and kiteboarding lessons, after which you can head to Dittiscombe Equestrian Centre (15 minutes) and horse around to your heart's content. The South West Coast Path, a perennial favourite for hardy hikers and adventurous families, passes about a mile from the gates of Higher Rew Touring Caravan and Camping Park.
