Down to Devon – but getting close to Cornwall too… South Hoggs Hideaway is in a splendid spot for getting out and about around both counties. This small family-run site is about five minutes’ drive/half an hour’s walk from Holsworthy, a handy little town for shops, supermarkets, pubs and takeaways as well as fun things like a theatre, a swimming pool and a Wednesday market. The town may be close by, but the site itself is nicely peaceful, with car-free pitches to keep things safe for everyone (you’ll have access to wheelbarrows to transport all your kit…) Further boosting the chance of quiet relaxation is the addition of a recreation area away from the pitches, where kids, dogs and adults alike can have a run about without worrying about disturbing the neighbours. Other facilities here include a washing-up area, outdoor showers and eco-friendly compost toilets, plus access to handy extras like charging points and a shared fridge. Each pitch also has a firepit to help you keep warm by night (or for a dabble in the art of alfresco cooking…) It’s not just the toilets that are eco-friendly here – the whole site tries to create minimal impact on the environment with schemes including rainwater harvesting, tree planting and nurturing natural hedgerows for the benefit of local wildlife.

喜欢 We arrived at the campsite and the owners were really friendly and helpful, the pitches have loads of room around them and it's really nice to know you won't have anyone camping right next to your tent, the facilities were beautifully kept and there is a nice walk around the lake and woods, I was also lucky enough to see the beaver, amazing!!

喜欢 This is my second visit to SHH. The first time with my partner and this time travelling alone. On both occasions, I have loved my trips. Michaela and Mark are amazing hosts, super helpful, lovely to chat to and maintain a spotlessly clean and beautifully kept campsite. The sizable, carefully mown pitches are perfect for creating that more private getaway feel. The woodland at the back is lovely to stroll around. The site's peace and tranquillity make it feel like you have had a real break away from life.
