A luxury stay within easy reach of golf, wine tasting and the stunning Cornish coast… all the magic words? If so, make immediate tracks for Lydcott Glamping, a family-friendly farm-based glampsite 10 minutes’ drive from the southeast Cornwall seaside town of Looe. The site is well-placed for scenery-filled explores of Cornwall: it’s 10 minutes by car to sandy beaches at Seaton and Looe, putting coastal explores within handily easy reach, and about 25 minutes to Bodmin Moor – a top spot for literary and legendary destinations. Closer to base, leisurely days can be had on the links at Looe Golf Club (five minutes) or sampling Cornish tipples during tastings at Looe Valley Vineyard (15 minutes). The kids are catered for too, as it’s less than 15 minutes to Adrenalin Quarry, where there’s go-karting, ziplining, axe throwing and a waterpark. Guests might, however, be hard pressed to find a reason to leave site to visit all that. A TV- and wifi-free zone, this rural retreat offers a break from the always-on lifestyle (although there is 4G coverage, so you shouldn't be cut off entirely), with lots of outdoor space to play about in, chickens wandering around, spectacular sea views from private decks, and toasty evenings next to firepits. As if that weren’t enough to draw guests in, the site team will also supply breakfast and cream tea hampers, and local cheese hampers, if ordered prior to arrival. Other meals can be sorted in the cabins’ fully-equipped kitchens or on the barbecues provided.

Peaceful nature-filled days are a cinch hereabouts: the famed Eden Project is 35 minutes’ drive from the site, and afternoons spent around animals can be had closer at hand at Wild Futures monkey sanctuary (10 minutes) and Porfell Wildlife Park (25 minutes). Kids and grownups may well also be entertained by the puzzle-based adventures at Hidden Valley, 45 minutes away. Active types might prefer to make tracks for Siblyback Lake (25 minutes), where they can have a go at windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, trout fishing, cycling and walking, while history buffs have plenty to choose from with National Trust sites including Lanhydrock and Cotehele within about half an hour. When urban days are called for, it’s 35 minutes to Plymouth and its museums, galleries, gin distillery, casino and aquarium. For urban on a smaller scale, opt instead for the stunningly scenic harbour village of Polperro – no cars are allowed here, but the trek is most definitely worth it.
