Peaceful nature-filled days are a cinch hereabouts: the famed Eden Project is 35 minutes’ drive from the site, and afternoons spent around animals can be had closer at hand at Wild Futures monkey sanctuary (10 minutes) and Porfell Wildlife Park (25 minutes). Kids and grownups may well also be entertained by the puzzle-based adventures at Hidden Valley, 45 minutes away. Active types might prefer to make tracks for Siblyback Lake (25 minutes), where they can have a go at windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, trout fishing, cycling and walking, while history buffs have plenty to choose from with National Trust sites including Lanhydrock and Cotehele within about half an hour. When urban days are called for, it’s 35 minutes to Plymouth and its museums, galleries, gin distillery, casino and aquarium. For urban on a smaller scale, opt instead for the stunningly scenic harbour village of Polperro – no cars are allowed here, but the trek is most definitely worth it.
