The Garden of England (that’s Kent, in case you didn’t get the memo) is yours to explore from Lillyroos, a family-friendly site in the countryside that surrounds the seaside town of Deal. The location makes this spot equally suited to watersports enthusiasts (the coast is about 10 minutes’ drive away), keen countryside hikers and cyclists (with paths leading directly off the site) and history buffs, who can visit the medieval town of Sandwich (10 minutes) and the city of Canterbury (half an hour). With a kitchen preparing home-cooked breakfasts (featuring eggs laid by the resident chickens and freshly brewed coffee) and evening meals, plus a cosy bar serving local beers and ciders (which you can sip while lounging on a hay bale), this is also a sweet spot for anyone who is not quite to abandon all creature comforts. Speaking of food… Barbecues are allowed, and you can get your provisions in Deal or at the farmers’ market just down the A258 (a short drive or a five-minute walk), which also has a café. There’s a big-screen TV if you (or a member of your party) just cannot go without your footie while on holiday, and a play area for the kids. This is a quiet site: no shouting or singing after 10pm, and no music (whether live or amplified), so leave your beloved ukulele at home. Dogs are welcome, but do let the site owners know in advance if your canine companion is coming along. Amenities on site include toilet and shower blocks, a washing-up area, ice-pack freezing facilities and recycling points.

喜欢 Dave was very accommodating! He showed us around the site including the bar, restaurant, charging stations & all other facilities they had to offer when we arrived. We brought a small puppy with us and he spoke through the nice nature walks nearby which we put to use! Onsite they had goats, ducks and chickens. The shower and toilet blocks were pristine with everything you need being there for you. The site is very close drive to sandwich and deal with amazing bakery’s, cafes and sights to be seen. We throughly loved our stay here and will be staying more often when visiting family in Kent!

喜欢 This was a lovely friendly campsite. We loved the goats and chickens ! We stayed midweek at the end of June when it was quiet but would happily stay at a busier time. There was a bar and restaurant in a very cute area which we would have used but as the site was quiet it was only open on our last night. There showers and toilets were clean and well kept and it was good to have a freezer for freezer blocks. There showers and campsite staff were great and always came to chat and made us feel very welcome.

喜欢 Was welcomed by Dave who was so friendly . Could basically park wherever we wanted. Absolutely beautiful site. Back to nature. Loved the goats and chickens on site. Went to get eggs from the honesty box but we weren’t lucky this time. Lovely hot showers. Toilet and shower block always clean and well stocked. Bar was very rustic and cute. Good quality beers and decent prices. Also pizzas, burgers and breakfast available. Great little play park if you do have little ones. Deal and Sandwich short drive away. Met some lovely people there all will the same mindset. We will definitely be back especially when they have some events on. Highly recommend

You can learn all about the area’s coal-mining past at the Kent Mining Museum at Bettshanger Country Park (five minutes’ drive), where there are also walking and cycling paths for all abilities, from a family-friendly tarmac track to some pretty challenging routes for experienced mountain bikers. Kids can also have a go at archery and orienteering. With its vast pebbly beach, two historic castles and long promenade skirted by a cycle path, Deal is a great destination for families. Grab some fish and chips and sit on Walmer Green (on Sunday afternoons, in the summer, there is live music at the bandstand), or stroll along the pier, keeping an eye on the Timeball Tower’s regular drop. Whether you’re into vintage rides (at colourful Dreamland amusement park) or modern art exhibitions (at Turner Contemporary), Margate (half an hour) has something for you. There’s also a sandy beach with a tidal pool, and an Old Town dotted with independent shops and cafés.
