Bed down among the butterflies and mini beasts that flutter around among the wildflowers at Sunrise Hill Campsite – this off-grid pop-up Isle of Wight site is an eco-friendly setup that's as close to wild camping as you can get. The site is a work-in-progress and has wildflower patches and conservation areas. Sunrise Hill is a family site in the little village of Brading, about 10 minutes' drive from Ryde. It’s a peaceful and pretty spot with lovely rural views, and yet handily it’s only a few minutes’ walk from the village’s pubs, shops, fish and chip takeaway and train station. Several of the island’s top beaches are a short drive away, but as the Isle of Wight is a compact place even the opposite end of the island is only about 40 minutes' drive away from this eastern location. Guests who stay here also get discounts on ferries from Southampton to the Isle of Wight (provided after you've booked). Pitches are sheltered and shaded by the leylandii trees that surround the camping field, and they have access to simple facilities including compost toilets, showers and drinking water. There’s also a small collection of firepits for guests to hire, although you’re welcome to bring your own barbecue or off-ground firepit along if you prefer. This is a family-friendly spot too. There are generally lots of bits for kids to use in the recreation area, plus plenty of chances to get stuck into foraging for blackberries in the bushes during the season.

喜欢 Great location and easy booking. Wild camping - don’t be put off by compost toilets, they were clean and ok to use!

不喜欢 Sadly needs some TLC, area around toilets very untidy with old things lying around. No recycling as listed in details. Also, never managed to get a hot shower!

喜欢 This is a fabulous little campsite. We needed somewhere close to family in Bembridge and St Helen’s and it was perfect. Very quiet, loads of room, compost loos and shower spotlessly clean. Owners on site and super lovely and helpful, fire pits and firewood provided which is great. We will be back!

喜欢 Love the fact I could just turn up and be free to park where I like. I met the owner on the first trip and as I go nearly every week I am left to enjoy my stay. Great communication through text. Lovely field with plenty of room. So relaxed and able to use a fire pit. Great price and convenient location with tesco just a short drive away.

喜欢 I love the place going back to basics of just what I needed a field. Toilet shower water. What more could you ask for beautiful birds, beautiful sunsets, sunrises everything you could ask for.

喜欢 Enjoyed our stay at sunrise hill campsite… very relaxed and chilled, kids could enjoy some freedom and there were kids toys for them to play with in the field which was a great touch. Close to amenities and really easy to book and find.

不喜欢 The shower was very temperamental even trying the advice given so we struggled to have a warm shower it was either cold or very hot. Toilets could’ve done with a little more cleaning even as compost loos!

I have now got a replacement shower. And working on ideas how to make the water pressure better for a better experience. I clean the toilets twice daily, sometimes 20x 😅 ultimately it’s down to guests, sometimes they are immaculate sometimes a nightmare, I’m hoping to build more for next season.

喜欢 Great little campsite loads of space between tents kids loved the toys that was left out to enjoy. Toilets was kept really clean and was hot shower on offer. The lovely lady who runs the campsite was super helpful and friendly too all round great campsite will stay again also really short walk to local shop and pubs and train station

There's some gorgeous countryside around here to keep walkers, cyclists and nature lovers busy for many a day – you may like to look out for red squirrels at Alverstone Mead, follow the Bembridge Trail or take a wander around the National Trust’s Bembridge Fort and Downs (all about 10 minutes’ drive away). If spotting wildlife on site has got you wondering what else you might be able to see around here, head out for more animal sightings at places like Wildheart Animal Sanctuary (five minutes), Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary (15 minutes) or Amazon World Zoo (15 minutes). Dinosaur Isle (five minutes) is another popular place to visit (even though its residents are not all that lively any more…) For beach time, you may like to head down into Sandown (five minutes) or along to Shanklin (10 minutes); a little further takes you to the sandy beach in Ventnor (25 minutes) or the rockpools of Steephill Cove (25 minutes). Top attractions like Osborne House, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway and Blackgang Chine are all within a half-hour drive too.
