If you're up for a spot of forest bathing – and in the company of free-roaming ponies – Ashurst Caravan and Camping Site, in the New Forest National Park, might be a spot that will suit you rather well. At this family-friendly site, you can choose to set up camp on flat, grassy pitches or delve deeper into the woods to stay in the shade of ancient oak trees. After that, all you need to do is embrace the peaceful vibe – or, if you prefer, get active by heading out for walks along waymarked trails through the woods, perhaps stopping for a rest and a pint of real ale at a traditional pub en route. If the grazing ponies and assorted birdlife on site have whetted your appetite for more animal-flavoured experiences, it's good to know that there's more of that within easy reach – within a 15-minute drive you can spy on otters, wolves and boars (New Forest Wildlife Park), watch deer being fed (Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary), and get up close and personal with farmyard animals and alpacas (Longdown Activity Farm). Whatever you choose to fill your days with, you may well be in need of a change of clothes and a freshen up once you get back to your pitch. That's easily done here, as the site's facilities include showers, a toilet block and launderette. Several gastropubs within a five-minute drive serve home-cooked meals, or you can walk into Ashurst village (five minutes on foot) and stock up on barbecue essentials at the supermarket. Please note, however, that disposable barbecues are not allowed on site.

喜欢 Friendly staff in reception on arrival. Quiet and peaceful site. Shower and toilet block was nice and clean. Can’t complain about anything for my first ever overnight in the van.

喜欢 Great location 3 pubs near by and a shop. Direct access to the forest where you can find easy hikes and bike rides to explore. Train station next door and bus stop out on the road. Lots of roaming ponies
Reception were friendly and knowledgeable. Toilet block clean and the showers were powerful. Only stayed 2 nights. Will stay again.

喜欢 It was fabulous! Spacious pitches,quiet,peaceful. Beautiful ponies everywhere, plus cows and calves. Tranquil. Nice wardens. Pub 2 mins although food basic 🙄 train 2 mins to various places. One of the best sites I’ve ever been on. Facilities clean, bit dated. Fantastic site.

喜欢 Great site in the New Forest with easy access to trails. Friendly, helpful staff.
Clean toilet/wash/shower block with free showers. Pitches are all fairly level with regular visits from the local ponies.

不喜欢 Gates closed 10pm and didn't reopen until 730am. Queuing to get out the gate in the morning to go out for the day. Staff weren't polite. Noisy train track next to us all night yet the park noise level after 10pm should be quiet it says!!!! Also tent pitches were rock solid grass area not good for pitching a tent at all. Also Friday night it was very noisy all night and late arrivals. Hardly slept there too much noise. Needs more lighting around the whole site too.

不喜欢 Too many rules so didn’t feel welcome on arrival. Uneven pitches for access. Gates locked early so couldn’t go out and come back at leisure.

喜欢 Absolutely amazing place to stay! we only stayed here due to being on a cruise the next day, but we will be back ! facilities are basic, but functional and thats what we like. fairly priced. Cannot comment on WIFI as we did not use it.

不喜欢 mis-leading signs. front of camp site says no dogs, sign by toilet block says to keep them on a lead. we normally travel with a dog but didnt on this occasion.

There’s a lot of enjoyment to be found in simply wandering through the woods around here, but if you want a specific place to head for, perhaps try Blackwater Arboretum (10 minutes’ drive), which has a collection of trees from around the world, or Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary (15 minutes), where you’ll be guaranteed to spot the native animals at feeding time. As well as all the wildlife attractions around here, there’s also one where the animals are rather larger than life… younger kids will no doubt love the chance to meet their cartoon favourites in person at Paultons Park Home of Peppa Pig World (15 minutes), plus the chance to go on various gentle rides. For older children, the gleaming attractions of the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu (15 minutes) may be more suitable. This location on the eastern side of the national park also gives easy access to Southampton (15 minutes) for the SeaCity Museum and Solent Sky aircraft exhibition or boarding ferries for a trip to the Isle of Wight.
