Longing for an introduction to 1066 country? Limitless walks and forest rises for mountain biking or den-making at your base? Based on the edge of a 600-acre woodland within a private 2000-acre beech estate, Beech Estate Campsite should certainly meet your expectations on both fronts. And bonus points must be awarded for the fact that every pitch (no matter the type) comes with its own firepit area too. It’s within these splendid Sussex woodlands that Beech Estate Campsite is based. In keeping with these natural surroundings, the site is completely off grid… so don’t expect things like hairdryers, phone chargers, power points, butler service, silk sheets or hot tubs. In their place, there’s a mains water supply with multiple water points throughout the site, lots of toilets (including five flushing loos and four eco toilets) and hot-water bucket showers. There are permanent wardens on site to lend a helping hand, too. Overall, expect a small-scale, quiet and relaxed vibe free from amplified music and with a low noise policy from 10pm. There are areas in the woods for kids to make dens and run wild – there’s no access for the public, so guests have exclusive use of the estate woodlands. The estate also has 110 acres of ancient meadowland dedicated to conservation, which supports wildlife like buzzard, kestrel, orchids, ox-eye daisies and over 30 species of butterfly. What a location this is for getting out and about too: Beech Estate Campsite is in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, five minutes’ drive from historic Battle, with its battlefield, abbey and cafés, shops and pubs. It’s just over two hours' drive from London, 20 minutes from the south coast and 25 minutes from Hastings. A number of local pubs are nearby, including three within 25 minutes’ amble of the site.

喜欢 A lovely, quiet, peaceful and well kept campsite. Gives the feeling of a wild camp with the convenience of the usual camp facilities. The toilets and wash areas were spotless. Lovely walks within the estate and nearby pubs and shops if you need them. Very well set up for open fire cooking. We were located in the meadow, lots of space for multiple small tents and a tarp. More communal than the other pitches but still a private feel due to the space provided. A great base for exploring 1066 country. We had a fantastic stay!

喜欢 We selected the Valley View pitch for our stay, it had a fab view over the forest tree tops. The pitch was sizeable and despite it not being too far from Reception it still felt secluded. We also liked that it was considerate of the environment with bucket showers and compost toilets but these were coupled with flushing toilets and access to sinks with running water which helped cater for all needs.

Wild Glamping 钟型帐篷

喜欢 The glamping bell tents and pitch were very clean and tidy, with everything you need for a trip. The fire pit setup was perfect for sitting round and relaxing. What was also really nice was the privacy and spacing between the pitches.

Very family orientated, and a really nice vibe to the place. It’s set in forestry so again, good for walks and nature lovers.

喜欢 Staff were excellent and friendly. How to use all of there facilities and the rules they had on the campsite were set out really well. I loved ther information board, that was reallly helpful and the estate itself was an incredible walk with some much nature. My woodland campsite was in a nice area and had some good seclusion to it. Was always really peaceful at night and the hot bucket showers were a nice touch. I would definitely come again, but maybe later in the year as it would have been more peaceful. Was unlucky with the weather, but still an amazing stay.

不喜欢 The only thing in the shower area, would be to have a shelve nearer the bucket shower, so you can put soap or shampoo in, then its easier to get to hand.

Get stuck into 1066 country… set off on the 31-mile 1066 country walk from Battle (five minutes’ drive) or head out to see Hastings’ (25 minutes) castle and fishing fleet. Smugglers once had a large hand in the goings-on around here too, and Smugglers Adventure (25 minutes) will let you look inside their caves. Into your art too? Hastings Contemporary (25 minutes) has a huge contemporary art collection. And into your science? The Observatory Science Centre (15 minutes) has a grand observatory and telescope. The stunning South Downs National Park (from 25 minutes’ drive) is a top spot for all active types, as is Knockhatch Ski & Snowboard Centre (half an hour).
