Northwood Farm Campsite is a bewitching spot to reconnect with nature and relax. During the day you might spot deer, foxes and hares flitting about, and sometimes, as dusk falls bats swoop overhead and owls hoot goodnight.
There are no set pitches, so turn up and pick your favourite spot. Wherever you choose to put up your tent, you’ll have views over ancient woodland or Gawthorpe Hall (a mini Downton Abbey).
Eggs, local milk, bacon and sausages are available from the owners to cook up a breakfast fit for kings, and barbecues are allowed, but please use the stone slabs provided. The cows would like their field back in pristine condition.
This is honest-to-goodness wild camping, with no electricity, wifi (there is mobile phone signal though) or showers. The site does have a communal picnic table and toilets, and you can borrow a wheelbarrow to get gear to your pitch down the farm track.
Despite its remote and rural vibe, Northwood Farm Campsite is easy to get to, being only 10 minutes’ drive from junctions 8 or 13 of the M65. Travelling on public transport? There’s a bus stop at the end of the lane.
You’ll find a playground for the kids in Higham village (five minutes’ walk) as well as a pub. A public footpath runs through the farm and the owners can provide more information on local walking routes.
