Set your sights on Cumbrian stays? This nifty pub stopover spot in Burgh by Sands has easy access to Carlisle and the Solway Firth, making it a top choice for hols spent on England’s northern edge. The Greyhound Inn is a fine country pub in the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Rural rambles are definitely on the cards here, as this wildlife haven is home to historic hamlets, nature reserves, sand dunes and salt marshes. Dogs are welcome at this site, and you can be pretty sure they'll appreciate the wide range of local explores to be had hereabouts. This landscape is rich in history, too: the Hadrian’s Wall National Trail and Hadrian’s Cycleway pass right by the pub. King Edward I also died in the village, and a monument stands at the spot where he fell in the nearby marshes. With a toilet, disabled facilities and free wifi, this site's well kitted-out for back-to-basics stays. The on-site pub is a friendly spot that's popular with visitors and locals alike, with cosy corners where you can unwind and sample cask ales and a south-facing outdoor decking area for alfresco dining. If you're planning on picnicking when out and about, the nearest supermarket is about 10 minutes' drive away.

Carlisle, a sizeable city with heritage sites aplenty, is a 20-minute drive away. The castle, a fearsome fortress whose inside walls are covered with eerie carvings made by former prisoners, once held Mary Queen of Scots. Other spots of interest include the city’s red stone cathedral and Tullie House, a museum and art gallery with artefacts from the days when Carlisle was an outpost on the edge of the Roman Empire. Visiting twitchers staying in the area should flutter over to RSPB Campfield Marsh (25 minutes), a hub for wading birds. For man-made flights, head to the Solway Aviation Museum (25 minutes), a heritage centre located on the same site as a working airfield. Day trips to the Lakes are also a doddle: Bassenthwaite Lake (40 minutes) is a top spot for watersports, while peaceful Derwentwater (50 minutes) has handy waymarked paths for lakeside strolls. While you're here, head to Keswick (50 minutes) to sort boat trips, to try out the local adventure park or to sample the wares at a local Lakeland brewery.

不喜欢: Everything. This pub needs to be removed from pitch up . Unsure if this is in the middle of a ownership transfer- but turned up and nobody knew we were coming, there was skips and mattresses in the car park , there was no electricity hookup available as stated, pub did not serve food and had limited drinks available. We did not stay and went to a lovely local pub down the road who did lovely food and because of our situation allowed us to stay in their car park.

喜欢: Parked up for the night lovely peaceful location, village is steeped in history walked down to St Michaels Church which is a 12th Century building must take a look inside it provides information about the history of this village. Worth a walk to where King Edward 1 has a monument erected at the place of his death. King Edward 1 has a statue beside the pub. We enjoyed a couple of pints, sitting out in the beer garden, villagers and staff at the Greyhound Inn made us feel very welcome. Highly recommend a stay at the Greyhound Inn.

喜欢: Location ideal , spoilt by pub being closed and no facilities as advertised and as we expected 😔

不喜欢: Disappointed pub was closed . A text or email would have been polite. Had to leave the site and find alternative location . Money wasted

不喜欢: Location,No Help from Staff at pub.Only 1 Person serving.Drinks Food, Bookings, No electric Hook up,But Paid for it,No onsite Toilet Was told to walk down road to a blue porta Toilet.No Trail To Adrians Wall as Adrians wall isn't no where near as it was stated.Didnt End up Staying any of the 2 Nights we paid for.Drove 160miles,for nothing,Drove all way back the same day we arrived.Not Happy at all.

不喜欢: We did not stay at this site as someone was already parked in the two pitches. The pub was closed only served food from Wednesdays to Sundays. I should have done more research on this.

喜欢: Great location for walking Hadrians Wall Path. Very helpful pub manager and great bar staff. Level parking for van. During our stay we needed to use a 13amp adaptor cable with a 3 pin plug to access the EHU. Good Wi-Fi in the pub.
