How’s about more than a touch of luxury in nattily kitted out Cumbria glamping pods? It’s time to pack your bags and head for Croft Foot Farm near buzzing Kendal, where you’ll be met by far-reaching Lake District fell views from wooden pods with underfloor heating to keep you toasty warm in these northern climes. Laid out with lovely touches including stylish bedding, towels and complimentary toiletries, each pod has a distinctive design featuring local furnishings like Herdwick tweed cushions. There’s plenty of room for a double and a sofa bed (best suited to kids), and the owners can provide travel cots and high chairs too. Other welcome additions in these cosy pods include ensuite bathrooms with hot showers, and starter packs in the compact kitchens, which also offer up fridges, microwaves and hobs, plus Nespresso coffee machines for that caffeine kickstart to your day. Outside there’s a private and enclosed decking area with a picnic table and a barbecue (buy steaks, burgers and sausages straight from the farm) – but if you don’t feel like grilling up a feast, there are plenty of award-winning local pubs within 15 minutes’ drive. For a luxurious cherry on top of all this, there’s a communal hot tub that can be booked on site. If the weather is clear, very little beats sitting in the bubbles and watching stars glittering above in the night sky…

喜欢: We loved our little weekend escape to croft foot farm for many reasons- the beautiful views, freedom, peace and quite, beautiful set up in the pods and lots of things to do and see in the area. For a busy family taking time out is so important and we could do that here, with no interruptions and our 3 year old could have lots of freedom and just enjoy being a child. We will be going back and probably take family or friends with us for the other pod!

喜欢: Just the two pods & a hot tub with a view of sheep, swallows and hills. The pod had a good range of useful extras from hot water bottles to sharp knives for cutting salad. Fresh eggs were available from the next farm.

不喜欢: I always want pods to have more space (a shelf or cupboard) for our hungry, gluten free, teenage amount of food!

While there are walks and mountain biking aplenty directly from the site, rainy-day suggestions are always a good idea in the Lakes. They include a visit to the indoor climbing wall at KendalWall, Lakeland Climbing Centre (10 minutes’ drive), or entertaining the family with big-name films, art exhibitions and indie shops at Rheged heritage centre in Penrith (35 minutes). Weather playing ball? Lose the kids (and find them again) in the maize maze at Lakeland Maze Farm Park (15 minutes), where they can also cuddle baby farm animals, or up your game to meet and feed the wild beasties at Predator Experience - Wolf Experiences (half an hour). There are gentler attractions of the literary kind at The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (half an hour), where the namesake author’s stories are brought sweetly to life in 4D. For a snoop into local history, tour the impressive topiary hedges (possibly the oldest in the world) and majestic Elizabethan apartments at Levens Hall (20 minutes), or visit the National Trust-owned Sizergh (20 minutes), a medieval mansion with kids’ trails through the house and walks in vast landscaped gardens.
