What would you say to a stint at Howbeck Lodge, a peaceful site on a family-run working farm at the northern tip of the Lake District? If the answer is 'yes, please', then you can look forward to lovely views over the river that runs past the pitches and out to the green countryside beyond… This may be a rural site, but it’s a most conveniently located one too: the M6 (Junction 41) is easily accessed 10 miles away, and the village of Hesket Newmarket is 10 minutes’ walk away for a village shop and pub. The C2C (Coast to Coast) route passes just by the farm as well, so this makes a handy stopover for any cyclists making their way across the country by pedal power. Days out are just as handy: it’s straightforward to get to several of the northern lakes (including Ullswater and Bassenthwaite) and peaks like Skiddaw and Helvellyn, or to Hadrian’s Wall or the Solway coast. Carlisle is half an hour’s drive away if you feel the need for a bit of city time. The farm’s serviced pitches are dog friendly and have access to facilities including a toilet and shower block a short walk away.

喜欢: This site is in a lovely quaint village, with stunning scenery surrounding it. What a pleasure it was to start our motorhome adventure here. It's a short walk through the farm to the local pub, which is dog friendly. The facilities on site were good. A nice hot shower, a sink, toilet and a mirror and well stocked with soap and toilet roll etc. We loved that it was a working farm and we got to see the lambs and calves in the shed. The check in process was easy enough and we got an arrival pack which was handy. They offer food on site, which is good to know for the future.

喜欢: Great little working farm site.very friendly welcome and the pitch was a very good sized fully serviced pitch. Loved all the animals and the scenery was amazing. Location was brilliant within half hour from Keswick lovely little place to visit,Allenby and other places not to far away. Lovely local pub In the village only 5 mins walk around from the site serving plenty of refreshing drinks very welcoming indeed. The locals were very kind and gave us great places to visit. Toilet facilities were always clean and the staff never stopped. Would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone.

不喜欢: Being picky but may need more toilet facilities has there’s only two little shower blocks.but plenty of stuff provided e.g. deodorants, shower gels etc so couldn’t complain.

喜欢: Lovely friendly people and facilities. Loved the fact it was a working farm in lambing season and William the donkey. Small site with spacious level pitches, clean reasonable facilities. Had a lovely break and will be booking again.

喜欢: What a lovely peaceful site with lovely views. The lady who I presumed was the owner was cx a very busy lady booking in people cleaning the toilets and showers out all whilst carrying her young baby around in a carrier. She is a legend. You can see the lambing shed which was full of lambs so cute. The toilets were lovely and clean and had personal touches just Incase yiu were caught short (ladies) x 5 mins walk to the little village or 30 mins walk to the next where it’s full of walkers and cyclists. Would deffo return can’t fault anything the sun even shone over the Easter weekend so always a bonus.

Please do not drive onto the caravan/motorhome pitches or into the camping field until you are advised otherwise. There is a box at the caravan park entrance containing welcome packs, which guests can take for their perusal.

If you're looking to spend some time by the water, Bassenthwaite Lake (20 minutes' drive) will surely be on your list. This most northerly lake in the national park is very quiet, with few towns and villages around its shores. Head here for walks along the path that runs along the western shore, or stick around to discover the animals on display just to the north of the lake at the Lake District Wildlife Park (20 minutes). It's a short drive to other top attractions too, the likes of which include historic Dalemain House (20 minutes), the Lakes Distillery (20 minutes), mountain peaks like Helvellyn (30 minutes) or Skiddaw (35 minutes) and the far-famed Derwent Pencil Museum, where you can learn all about graphite. Birdoswald Roman Fort, part of Hadrian’s Wall, can be reached by road in 50 minutes as well. Cumbrian life isn't all about the fells and lakes, though: you can take yourself off to Carlisle (30 minutes) for a more urban day out at the castle, cathedral and Tullie House museum, or you could get to Cumbria's gorgeous coastline in about 35 minutes for days out on the sand.
