South Yorkshire activity seekers: sorted. Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre and Campsite on the outskirts of Doncaster has quite the heap of active options on site – and is in an area with plenty more in the surrounds, from golf to hiking to hurtling around indoors at the Doncaster Dome. The active options on site are land and water based, and include courses, group sessions, team building, parties, canoeing and outdoor swimming. Or you could just use the site as a base to potter around Doncaster and South Yorkshire, or as an overnight stopover easy to access because of its nifty links to the national motorway network. This site is family friendly, with facilities including a toilet and shower block, a chemical disposal point, a washing-up area and a deep sink for clothes washing. A play area and vending machines are also on site. It's a 10-minute walk to the old town of Hatfield, where supplies can be picked up at the local newsagent, post office, mini-market and off-licence and bakery; there are also restaurants and pubs for all manner of eats and drinks. Responsible dog owners are welcome at the site.

喜欢 Pitches are nice and big and there is so much to do onsite for kids especially. The little bar/cafe is really handy and the shop well stocked. All the staff were helpful and friendly.

不喜欢 Only dislike is the quiet time rules were not enforced and there were groups of campers partying until 1-2 in the morning. If my kids were a little younger this would have been a problem.

喜欢 Very friendly staff. Excellent facilities. Easy access to local services. Excellent site for families.

不喜欢 Expensive for food on site. Fire pits are over priced (£10 a night) but of good quality but no discount for long stays (over 2 nights)

不喜欢 Natural pool lake is not for children who are not confident in swimming, so maybe would be better to make some small beach and place to swim in the lake for younger children or children who can't swim but still want to be in the water

喜欢 Brilliant site, great atmosphere, staff very helpful. We will be going again next year for a full week.

不喜欢 We were allocated pitch 46 on arrival which was great, right by the camp site entrance and the kids park. The down fall was that the electric hook up was a million miles away and our electric lead was only 15 metres long, spoke to staff at reception and they said oh your on that pitch, you will have to hire an electric extension. Would of been nice for us to have been told prior.
Food prices in the cafe are a bit steep. Portion of chips £5.50. But there is a popeyes pizza place on just eats 4 miles away that deliver to the site👍

喜欢 Easy access to our activities that we planned away from the site as didn’t book it for the water activities.

不喜欢 Toilets were in poor state ie excess water on floor, dirt and not enough toilet brushes.
Quiet hour is after 22:30, but young children still running around being noisy even at midnight and parents not caring about other campers.

If you're at Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre and Campsite to be an active sort, head to the 25-metre pool, sports hall and gym of Thorne Leisure Centre 10 minutes away, to the Crookhill Park Golf Course half an hour's drive away, or to the 50 or so indoor and energetic activities of Doncaster Dome. Other good options in the area are the Yorkshire Wildlife Park eight miles from the site, Doncaster Racecourse, Pennines hikes to the county's west, a day out in Scunthorpe, or a wander around Yorkshire's many historic houses, like the halls of Normanby, Doddington and Brodsworth. Nature-spotting options are around at Humberhead Peatlands National Nature Reserve, home to over 5,000 species of plants and animals, and Potteric Carr Nature Reserve, with flocks of bitterns among other wading birds.
