Those who wish to experience the attractions of the city of York while also waking up to the sight of endless green fields and dense woodland should consider staying at Willow House Caravan Park. From this peaceful, adults-only site (over 18s only), it’s a 15-minute drive to reach York Minster – that’s pretty handy, right? Even handier, though, is letting someone else do the driving into the city: you can catch a bus at the end of the drive. What’s more, you’re only a five-minute drive from Clifton Moor Retail Park, with its supermarkets, stores and entertainment options for rainy days (a multiscreen cinema and ten-pin bowling among them). But what about the site itself? In addition to two wildlife ponds – where you can stroll along looking at the ducks as they swim in and out of the bullrushes – there’s a café serving huge cooked breakfasts, sandwiches and wraps, all made with locally sourced produce. Oh, and afternoon teas with home-made cakes and other sweet treats. There is also a gift shop in the café. Your four-legged companion is a welcome guest here, and you can take them (or yourselves) for a walk through Westfield Wood nearby. Back on site, you’ll be able to use the wet room and washing-up area, as well as extra facilities near the café, which include showers and toilets (including facilities for disabled guests) plus a laundry area.

喜欢: This is a great site, peaceful and relaxing. The shower wet rooms clean and tidy, everything you need. It is definitely is a 10 out of 10. Also bus stop outside runs to York every hour, and thought the bus does not run a evening service a taxi is a reasonable price, and to top it there is a cracker of a cafe onsite which I would recommend great scrambled eggs.

不喜欢: sad that there is no reception, the toikets ware not clean because woman en gents go in the same toilet.

喜欢: The site was well maintained and quiet, lovely cafe. Excellent location to get the bus into York and back

喜欢: Well maintained pitches in a peaceful location with a great cafe on-site. Amenities block clean but tired, it would benefit from a refurbishment. Very handy for trips into York (Number 40 bus stop right outside the site), and there is a quiet dog walk into the village behind the site.

喜欢: Loved Willow caravan park - very peaceful, relaxing site. Beautiful countryside surrounding. Friendly campers. Enjoyed the stroll to Wigginton along the beck direct from the site.

喜欢: Quite location. Easy access to buses and into York centre.

不喜欢: Long walk to showers and toilets. Portable toilet was smelly and no light for night use. Unmanned site (on normal days this would be fine) we wanted some information about the local area and had no one to ask. Also on arrival we wasn’t sure where to pitch up the information said between posts but there wasn’t any posts!

喜欢: From the site there is a lovely walk into a small village.great showers, nice clean site.only down fall is the busy road,which you can hear the traffic a night. Would of loved to have walked into York but no off road route ☹️

Unmissable sights in York (15 minutes’ drive) include the medieval Minster, with its colourful stained-glass windows, and the JORVIK Viking Centre, where you can learn all about the early history of the city. Trainspotters make a beeline for the ​​National Railway Museum York, where locomotives on display include a replica of Stephenson’s Rocket and the Art Deco-inspired Duchess of Hamilton. With a patchwork landscape of hills, arable fields and woodland, the Howardian Hills National Landscape (20 minutes) is a popular destination for hikers and cyclists. Wildlife enthusiasts can keep an eye out for roe deer, stoats and badgers, plus birds of prey. An 18th-century stately home, Castle Howard (half an hour) has elegant rooms adorned with paintings by Italian Old Masters and English artists like Sir Joshua Reynolds and Thomas Gainsborough. There’s also a pre-Raphaelite Chapel, decorated by William Morris, plus expansive parkland dotted with lakes and follies.
