A break by the fabulous North Yorkshire coastline is always a good idea – and arguably even better when you manage to steer clear of the crowds and find yourself a quiet little tucked-away spot to stay in instead. That spot could well be Runswick Bay Caravan Park, a peaceful family-owned spot up on the cliffs overlooking the beach at Runswick Bay. Ever-popular Whitby is about 15 minutes’ drive south, so you’ll be able to visit it (and many other coastal hotspots) easily enough, but here it's all about the peace and quiet. Runswick Bay may not be on many visitors’ radar but it’s a lovely little spot with a dog-friendly sandy beach (with rockpools that kids often love) and a village that’s got a pub and café among its cluster of seaside cottages. You can stroll down to the beach in a few minutes from the park – but there’s also plenty of space on site for kids to play in the woods or ride bikes in the open spaces. In fact, everything has been nicely set up for easy family holidays here – the pitches are surrounded by trees to shelter them from coastal breezes, and there’s a good collection of shared facilities including a launderette, a washing-up area, a chemical disposal point and bathrooms with disabled access. There are lots of lovely walks to be done along this stretch of coastline – but those of you with more challenging hikes in mind may like to note that this park is on the route of the 110-mile Cleveland Way, and on the northern edge of the North York Moors National Park.

喜欢 Toilets and washing up facilities were great. Super clean and well organised.
Field was perfect with super views and paths directly onto the Cleveland way and down to the beautiful beach. Steep but with benches along the way for those needing a rest and completely worth it!

Close to walks and the beach.
Pub next door.

不喜欢 Have been to this site many years ago and have felt its gone down hill. Tents packed too close together and showers/hot water poor. The timing button on the showers is terrible, I know we need to save water but , when showering the water literally stops in about 10 seconds and was luke warm.

喜欢 Location within walk of beach, pubs, bus top, coastal walks. Easy check in. Pitches a little uneven and much closer together than we like.
Lovely spot albeit just a field, within easy reach of Staithes ( an hours walk) and Whitby (3 hours walk)we walked to both, bus stops outside pub if want to save time.
Two lovely pubs within walking distance both served delicious food.
Toilets and showers cleaned on regular basis.
Handy utility room for washing up. Washing machines if needed. Freezer good to keep cool box ice block frozen. Be nice for communal fridge for storing essentials and maybe a kettle/ plug for chargers if needed as no electric hook ups.
Easy access to Cleveland Way for walks with beautiful scenery, although walk up from beach is very steep!
Great dark skies for stargazing.
Very windy on last night but we were prepared for this from reading previous reviews.

Way to toilets could be better lit as lights were poor, recommend a torch.
Showers push button so not continuing running water.

喜欢 Great campsite with good facilities in a location that we really liked. Good location for dog walks, access to a dog friendly beach and round corner from a dog friendly pub! It’s still good if you don’t have dogs! Close to Whitby and Staithes. We also went to Whitby golf course which was a 10-15 minute drive away and was really welcoming to visitors.

不喜欢 I’m finding it hard to think of anything. The showers were on the cool side but that’s being a bit picky!

喜欢 Lovely field to pitch up tents, the facilities were in excellent condition, hope to come back to Runswick campsite next year!

Getting out for a walk is a good idea here – either along the coast or out into the moors (Falling Foss waterfall, 25 minutes’ drive away, is a good place to aim for). For other fresh-air activities, you could go surfing in Saltburn-by-the-Sea (25 minutes' drive), follow the bike trails through Dalby Forest (45 minutes) or climb into the trees at Go Ape Dalby (45 minutes). Whitby (15 minutes) is a must-visit, of course – to walk the 199 Steps, visit the Captain Cook Memorial Museum and follow in Dracula’s footsteps at Whitby Abbey. A little way south, Robin Hood’s Bay (half an hour) is also a great place to take a stroll, with fossil hunts and ghost walks as well as National Trust - The Old Coastguard Station to explore. More seaside time? How about a day out in Scarborough (45 minutes), with its Sea Life Centre, open-air theatre and Alpamare UK waterpark? Alternatively, mix up coast and moorland scenery with a heritage ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from Whitby to Pickering.
