Allo, allo, allo! What we have here then is quite a spectacular site from which to explore the heady heights of the Yorkshire Dales National Park: in fact, it would be a crime not to. And it's all in the gorgeous mature parkland of the Grade I-listed Georgian mansion Constable Burton Hall: on an arresting site behind the walls to its old deer park and with handsome views across peaceful local farmland. Constable Burton Hall Caravan Park is at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, at the entry to Wensleydale and near the market towns of Leyburn and Middleham medieval village: think cheese, shopping and heaps of history. Both Jervaulx Abbey and Richmond Castle are within six miles, and there’s a Good Pub Guide emporium on the doorstep, the wonderful 18th-century tavern Wyvill Arms (have a Rudgate Ruby Mild over a game of chess and under a summer parasol). Constable Burton Hall is a seriously serene site in a spot of spectacular scenery, yet close enough to everything for twitchy types who might fancy shopping, hiking, adventure sports or family days out. It’s also an ideal stopover for explorers from the south of England on their way to the Lake District and Scotland.

喜欢: Couple running site were really welcoming and helpful, gave us insight on where and what to do in the area. Helped us with whatever we needed. The site is really well located 5 minutes from Leyburn, 20 minutes from waterfalls. Great walks around the site, pub over road. The guys keep the site immaculate, the grass and all the facilities are kept literally flawless. Also good value for money, unlike a lot now. Will be returning

不喜欢: Nothing. Only thing I could see people bringing up are the showers (they are a bit dated) but they work well and are spotless, not a problem at all for us.

喜欢: Super site managers; friendly, approachable and helpful. Facilities are dated but in good working order and clean; aesthetically modern facilities would not suit this peaceful country site. Lovely old pub and restaurant over the road. Great area for country views, historical market towns with a variety of great shops although quite pricey.

喜欢: Very friendly, helpful staff. Lovely pub, just over the road. Site was quiet and the toilet block was clean and warm with a family block with a baby changing table.

喜欢: Nice welcome, taken to pitch by very helpful warden. Toilets & showers bit old but very clean & we'll maintained. Nice views, lovely area to stay in.

喜欢: This is a well priced site, the facilities are good, really nice hot showers and very quiet. There is a small designated dog walk down one side. I chose the site as it had a pub over the road but then ended up not going, it looked nice though.

不喜欢: It's basically a field, pitches are uneven and on grass, this actually didn't effect our stay but it lacks character. WiFi was not good.

Naturally, one should stop off first at Constable Burton Hall Gardens, the woodland and formal patches surrounding 18th-century Palladian mansion Constable Burton Hall. Guided tours are available of the formal and woodland gardens, but for the hall itself, enquire in advance about a guided tour. Elsewhere close by are the market towns of Leyburn and Bedale; make your way to Leyburn on Fridays for market days and to Bedale for cobbled street Tuesday markets, the petting zoo Big Sheep Little Cow Farm and the stop on the 22-mile heritage train ride from Northallerton and Redmire. While at Bedale, there’s a nifty Heritage Trail from the local tourist information centre giving you a taste of the town’s ancient history (Bedale was mentioned in the Domesday Book), and the Thorp Perrow Arboretum is good for green-fingered and animal fans: it’s home to five National Plant Collections and has meerkats, birds of prey and wallabies among other locals. North Yorkshire in general is great for gardens, so also bloomingly recommended is The Forbidden Corner in Tupgill Park, a folly full of tunnels, ‘chambers, follies and surprises’ on a four acre site in the centre of the Yorkshire Dales. Elsewhere gardenly, go for Helmsley Walled Garden at Cleveland Way and Castle Howard in York, and for green spaces and nature reserves we insist on the grassland and meadow Leyburn Old Glebe Nature Reserve via the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, which is full of flower and hay meadows. Another must is the Yorkshire Dales National Park – for watersports, adventuring, fishing and climbing… but if that sounds too much, take off to theme park Lightwater Valley near Ripon for peaceful pursuits. And if you have delightful darlings to hand, fab family-friendly options around Leyburn and in North Yorkshire include high ropes at Aerial Extreme and quad biking at Action and Adventure, both in Bedale, or touring the caves at the nearby Stump Cross Caverns. Also have a wander around the medieval village of Middleham, the site of the leading racehorse training centre in the north of England and a pull for race goers from around the world; pick up a souvenir in one of the independent shops or have a look at medieval Middleham Castle, former home of possibly misunderstood monarch Richard 3.
