Had it with daily life and longing for a rural retreat with a sizeable dollop of luxury? Fancy a romantic couple’s hideaway or looking for a break with the kids? Dwell on the Moor may well tick all the boxes for you. High up on the North Yorkshire moors in the village of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, it’s well away from the hustle of every-day life, but easily accessed (York and Hull are both 40 minutes’ drive) for a much-needed weekend away. Ultra-luxurious accommodation is in a handful of stylishly furnished, handcrafted wooden lodges with pretty much every modern convenience; proper beds, separate rooms for the kids, spacious dining areas with quality furnishing, and cosy sofas for chilling out on. Fully equipped kitchens make catering a pleasure, and bathrooms come with lush complimentary lotions and potions. All linen and towels are provided. Outside a private garden awaits with a picnic table for warmer days, and a hot tub for any time at all, preferably with a glass of something fizzy in hand. This exclusive little site is run on sustainable lines, and the owners believe in giving back to the community… Please try to shop and dine locally to support the local economy; you’ll find a convenience store, café and pub 10 minutes’ walk away in the village.

喜欢: We loved the warm welcome, and the cabin - very cosy, plenty of space, separate room with bunk beds for the kids. The facilities were great, and of course the hot tub was wonderful!

喜欢: Beautiful pod, immaculate inside. With a beautiful hot tub.

不喜欢: The shower took a while to work. It was cold, but figured out how to get the heat on eventually.

喜欢: Just come back from a lovely couple of nights in the stag pod for my partners birthday. It was brilliant everything you need is there on arrival fast self check in no hassle at all. Perfectly furnished and the grounds are kept lovely and tidy. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to get away and unwind we'll definitely be back

喜欢: We have liked literally everything! The pod was nice and clean with all the equipment we needed. The hot tub was amazing, children loved it! The place is very peaceful and quiet, perfect for little break with family :) we will definitely be coming back!! :)

喜欢: Absolutely wonderful stay here in the stag pod with our dog. Stayed for 2 nights this bank holiday weekend. The pod is so beautiful and cosy with mod cons - dish washer, coffee machine, kettle and air fryer. The pub in the village is only a 10 min walk and serves delicious food. There is a Tesco in Market Weighton just a 10 min drive away. Thanks to James and his niece Shelley for a wonderful stay.

不喜欢: Our only negative was the sofa in the lounge area, it’s not comfortable for watching tv in the evenings, a 2 seater recliner sofa would be much more our choice.

喜欢: I have recommended this lodge to so many of my family and friends as i think it is such a great value for money. Me and my partner absolutely loved our stay here. Such a clean and spacious place which is also in a fab location! Can’t wait to be back next year. 10/10 from me:)

喜欢: We really enjoyed our stay at Dwell on the Moor. The lodge was really well equipped and the site is beautifully landscaped and such a nice setting. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub and being able to use the fire pit and it was a short walk across the fields to the village which had a couple of pubs and a good selection of shops and take always.

不喜欢: Nothing, it was all great.

For some city serious sightseeing, the landmark minster and labyrinth of medieval streets packed with museums, indie shops and posh restaurants are the siren calls of lovely York (40 minutes’ drive). Another historic town is Beverley (half an hour), with its own ornate Gothic-era minster, vibrant painted ceilings in St Mary’s Church and lengthy walks on the Westwood common land. Heading back into the countryside, the East Riding of Yorkshire has a brace of stately homes to check out: Elizabeth Burton Agnes Hall (40 minutes) is open for tours of its interior – little changed since the early 17th century, while the elegant Castle Howard (45 minutes) has gilded apartments and expansive parkland full of follies to wander. If you’d rather be out doing something sporty, there are several golf courses within 20 minutes’ drive, or you might care to bring the bike with you and cycle upland tracks on the Yorkshire Wolds (half an hour).
