Have fishing rod, will travel. If your dream holiday involves sitting on the banks of a peaceful lake while casting a line, Gatton Waters Caravan Park might well be the place for you. Sitting a five-minute drive from the Norfolk village of Hillington, this adults-only site spreading over 24 acres has its own coarse-fishing lake, stocked with carp, roach, rudd, perch, bream and tench. It also has a fully-stocked bar open on weekends. While you indulge your favourite activity, the rest of your family (and the dog, who is a welcome guest here) might prefer to explore the surrounding woodlands, which is inhabited by hares and other wildlife. Speaking of wildlife, the lake itself attracts plenty of winged creatures; however, if you’re into birdwatching, you should take the half-hour drive to Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve, an area of salt marshes and sand dunes populated by terns, plovers and wintering geese. Some might prefer a day at the seaside, maybe at sandy Brancaster Beach (25 minutes) or Holkham Beach (40 minutes), or at Blakeney Point (45 minutes), which is known for its seal colony. Want to catch a spectacular Norfolk sunset? Head to Snettisham Beach (20 minutes), then get back to the site for an evening barbecue (stopping for provisions in Hillington, which has a fully stocked convenience store and a petrol station). Not in the mood for cooking? There are plenty of pubs serving locally sourced food and ales in the nearby villages. Amenities at the caravan park include ladies’ and gents’ heated shower and toilet blocks, and a washing-up area, as well as electric hook-up, chemical disposal, wifi and charging and recycling facilities.

喜欢: This is becoming One of our favourite sites! We stayed on the pitcthat was close to the toilets/showers and a couple of steps from the lake.

This site is so well kept, it’s family owned and shows, the care and attention from the arrival, to leaving is fantastic. You are shown to your pitch, everything is explained and they are on hand if needed through your stay. The toile/shower blocks are lovely and clean, lots of hot water and they stay clean throughout the day because they are being checked regularly, We liked it here so much we came back within a month of the last visit

It was fully booked this bank holiday weekend but we didn’t feel overcrowded, there are enough facility blocks around for everyone, plenty of space to walk round with your pooch and lots of people to say hi too. We will be back!

喜欢: Very friendly host. Lovely peaceful site with nearly all pitches facing the beautiful 8 acre lake.

不喜欢: I know there’s nothing that can be done about it but I spent an hour cleaning up goose poo from our shoes when I got home and my car is covered in pigeon poo which got baked on! Not parking under the trees again 🤣

If you like fishing the lake is excellent.

Humans can also stroll or cycle along nature trails winding through oak and chestnut groves, then reward themselves with an elegant afternoon tea (book in advance). At Norfolk Lavender (15 minutes), you can feast your eyes (and nose) on fields upon fields of colourful and fragrant flowers. Informative tours explain the process of harvesting and distilling lavender oil, and you will also learn all about the various uses of this aromatic plant. Stretching along the River Great Ouse, the historic town of King’s Lynn (15 minutes) is justifiably proud of its maritime heritage, which you can explore on guided or self-guided tours that take you along narrow cobbled streets to the medieval harbour and quayside.
