Ssssh, don’t let the kids get wind of it, but if you stay at Knowle Donkey Sanctuary, a site on a farm 10 minutes’ drive from Solihull in the West Midlands, they’ll get to spend lots of time sharing cuddles with the furry residents at the namesake sanctuary. Along with donkey hugs, the site has neatly maintained gravel and grass pitches with countryside views. There are no toilets or showers, but other basics are in place, including water, Elsan points, recycling and visitor information. There’s also a dedicated dog run, so Fido can join you on your adventures, and free-range eggs and honey from the farm’s hives are for sale on site too (that’s breakfast taken care of then). Barbecues are allowed at the pitches, and there are supermarkets in Knowle and Dorridge (both five minutes’ drive) for picking up provisions; Solihull (10 minutes) is the nearest place for major shopping sprees. If you don’t fancy cooking alfresco, there’s a food pub adjacent to the Birmingham Canal about five minutes’ walk away. The site couldn’t be easier to get to, being less than 10 minutes from Junction 5 of the M42, and only 10 miles from Junction 15 of the M40.

This site is under development and the owners will do everything they can to minimise disturbance to guests while improving the facilities. Also, there is some traffic noise from the A4141 at peak times, but it’s quiet at night. Only green or organic toilet fluids are allowed.

喜欢 Friendliness and helpfulness of staff on arrival, seeing the animals in the adjacent field ,pub / restaurant 5 min walk and digs allowed.

不喜欢 No shower or toilet facilities, we knew this on arrival and believe there will be some installed in the future .

喜欢 Location was good. Easy to find. Nice walks up to the canal and pubs. Lovely donkeys, alpacas and sheep.

不喜欢 We were eventually welcomed by the one man there. He seemed to be doing everything entirely by himself including dumper truck operation and trying to progress the new build. He had help from other staff on day 3. The gate to visit the donkeys was locked 2 out of our 3 days, probably because he was on his own. A bit of road noise overnight. It will be much better when the toilet block is built and I would return at that point… not before.

喜欢 The pitch was very generous! The site was clean. The owner is friendly and accommodating. Very easy to set up electricity and water replacement. My 6 year old loved the fact he had access to all the animals and it was a safe site for him to play and enjoy himself.
The site is still under development, toilets etc have not been built yet, but that was clear when we booked. Warick castle only 16 minutes away. Overall a great stay!

喜欢 Easy access to the site, 5 well defined and large pitches, great food at the local pub, lovely towpath walks, easy walk along mainly towpath into the picturesque village of Knowle. We went for the Summferfest in Solihull - taxis were easy to use to/from the site. Toilet facilities are in development. Couldn't fault the site. The owner was helpful and passionate about the donkey sanctuary which is operated fully by volunteers and relies on donations.

喜欢 This site is a hidden gem!! Shush don’t tell anyone! It has everything you need for a motorhome stay but the truly wonderful delight is that it’s on a donkey sanctuary and there aren’t just donkeys but alpacas sheep and chickens. Truly lovely to see the site setting on a sanctuary. There’s a cafe too open on weekends for your breakfast butties and cake!
I loved this site the farmer was helpful and friendly and I felt very safe as a single lady travelling on my own as there are cameras on the site gates.

There a pub up 5 mins walking distance too.

不喜欢 Nothing to dislike, i checked the previous reviews and some mentioned the traffic noise, didn’t bother me.

After you’ve all stopped fussing the donkeys, local bucket-list attractions include the spectacular and family-friendly Warwick Castle (20 minutes’ drive), with jousting sessions, raptor flying displays and live shows re-enacting major events in British history. Other attractions with a heritage slant include the National Trust properties of Baddesley Clinton, where you can tour Elizabethan interiors, or Packwood House (both 10 minutes), a Tudor mansion with an exquisite topiary garden. And of course, Shakespeare’s birthplace of Stratford-upon-Avon is only half an hour away by car for performances at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and visits to the bard’s birthplace. The National Exhibition Centre (15 minutes) is host to year-round fairs and festivals, while petrolheads can spend time admiring the British bikes on display at the National Motorcycle Museum (10 minutes). And after all that culture, if your kids are asking for more time with furry creatures, Hatton Country World (also 10 minutes) has a petting farm as well as dinosaur trails and soft-play for toddlers.
