In need of an escape? Settle in at Camping at West Midlands Showground, a family-friendly Shropshire site less than 15 minutes’ walk from Shrewsbury town centre, where tourist sites and shopping are within easy reach and there’s plenty of green space for kids and the dogs to run around on. Peaceful urban getaways are a dream here: days can be spent wandering the winding medieval streets of Shrewsbury, exploring castle and abbey, strolling around gardens and parks, following the Darwin Town Trail (the evolutionist was born here) and taking boating trips on the Severn. Anyone fishing for a good time should swim back to site and cast a line in the Severn. Part of the Greenhous West Mid Showground, the site’s facilities are pretty basic, but it does have its own fishing rights – plus it's well set for getting the most out of Shropshire and Shrewsbury explores, and finding fab eateries, pubs and ways to pass the time will be a piece of cake. Speaking of cake, there are plenty of restaurants in Shrewsbury for local bites, and barbecues are welcome on site for cooking more substantial meals.

喜欢 Clean and tidy site. Very convenient for Shrewsbury. Checking in procedure was good, taken to pitch by very pleasant gentleman.

不喜欢 Very basic facilities, lacking hooks in shower rooms. No obvious recycling facilities.

喜欢 Great location for walking into Shrewsbury.

不喜欢 For the price I paid i was disappointed (£35p/n), Toilet blocks are very poor.
Doesn’t look like they are cleaned regularly, glad I had my own vans facilities otherwise I would not stay here again.
Doors struggle to close, and not clean.

喜欢 Convenient for the town,level pitches.

不喜欢 Only three available shower/ washing facilities with no sink plugs and no toilet brushes, hit and miss toilet rolls, ingested and for both genders. No access to these for physically disabled.
On site contractors vehicles using the access to pitches instead of the available off site road and driving in excess of the signposted 5 MPH.
Hauling the grey waste containers into the disposal trough was difficult.

Highly recommend Greenfield Spice Indian takeaway. They are happy to deliver to the site and the food was really good and not expensive.

喜欢 I liked this site. It was ultra quiet. It was flat. Lots of space to walk the dogs ...yes on lead. It was a 15-minute walk from Shrewsbury, which was an amazing place to wander around. Tonnes of history. On arrival we received a BIG welcome pack loaded with information. Excellent.

不喜欢 Can't pinpoint any real dislikes. The site is undergoing renovations, which didn't distract. Improvements will be an asset here. Yes the main toilet blocks need demolishing, but new toilet mobile was very good. Limited wheelchair access to this.

Once Shrewsbury has been well and truly explored (don’t forget a pitstop at The Mount, birthplace of Charles Darwin), venturing out into nature will be a welcome break from bricks and mortar. The site is a little over half an hour’s drive from the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where scenic wanders, horse riding, gliding and paragliding are the order of the day. If those walking boots haven’t seen enough action, make tracks for Buttington (35 minutes' drive) to join the Offa’s Dyke long-distance path and follow 177 miles of England-Wales border – alternatively, rest weary legs with a scenic boat tour along the Severn, leaving 15 minutes away. There’s plenty of history hereabouts, so dive right in with a look inside the fab 18th-century mansion at Attingham Park (and a stroll around the gardens and parkland) or a stop at the spectacular Sunnycroft villa in nearby Telford. Go from finery to industry by trundling along to the Ironbridge Gorge UNESCO site to explore the birthplace of the industrial revolution, making time for the recreated Victorian town of Blists Hill, the Coalport China Museum and the world’s first ever cast-iron bridge. Stay in the past (the very, very distant past) with a trip to Wroxeter Roman City and Vineyard, or return to the present with some modern urban days: Telford is half an hour away and has a snowboard and skiing centre that should keep families entertained, while Birmingham Is a little over an hour and a half from base if a real big-city vibe is needed.
