Peaceful, off-grid vibes and walks along the Trent Valley Way, yes please… Millview Camping is a completely off-grid site just 20 minutes’ drive from Nottingham city centre and 15 minutes’ walk from the 116-mile Trent Valley Way. With westerly views over the Trent Valley and in the shadows of a ruined 18th-century windmill, this is a peaceful and scenic place to take a break indeed… Well-positioned too, with a generous handful of pubs, restaurants and cafés a scenic 35 minutes’ walk away in Gunthorpe alongside the river Trent. Radcliffe on Trent and Bingham are five minutes’ drive away for any other amenities you might (supermarkets, shops, restaurants, pubs and the likes). And if you’re after even more of a buzz, Nottingham city centre is 25 minutes’ drive away. Even with such good access to so many towns and the big city, the site itself is remote. It has 10 acres of hay meadows and woodlands for guests to explore and, of course, sublime sunsets over the valley. If you prefer to keep your whole stay pretty rural, the Vale of Belvoir and the historic Belvoir Castle are 20 minutes’ drive away from the site. It’s no frills here. The grass and woodland pitches have facilities including water and portaloo access. Dogs are also permitted, as are barbecues.

喜欢: What a place feels like you are miles from anywhere, I was lucky I had the whole site to myself for 1 night. The views are wonderful especially on a clear sunny day you can see fields and hills for miles, great little toilets (I'm not that fully equipped for off grid) and washing up facilities. The bell tent areas look great and the little seating area in front of them is fab. Tom the owner popped across to make sure everything was ok. Definitely be coming back for a getaway with misses.

喜欢: The site itself was really well kept, and the facilities, though basic were lovely and clean. The fairy lights through the trees that lit up in the evening were beautiful and gave a magical feel to the site. There was a firepit available for us to borrow which was great and the site owner could not have been more friendly and helpful. Thank you 😊

喜欢: Loved picking our own pitch it was huge! Amazing and clean toilets! Seems like a site following a previous festival so it’s got some cool deco, mushroom bins, fairy lights, hammocks etc. Really cool vibe. Highly recommend camping down sunset boulevard

What setting might you have for a hike? Perhaps the green slopes of The Vale of Belvoir (20 minutes’ drive), where there are walks like the Barkestone Circular, Denton Reservoir and Stathern Wood. Sightseeing might count as a walk of sorts too, and there’s plenty of that to get stuck into around here. In Nottingham (25 minutes), take your pick of the castle, Wollaton Hall, art gallery and typical city centre attractions. Over in Southwell (20 minutes), you can follow up a visit to the minster by dining on local eats. Newark-on-Trent (20 minutes) has a castle too, plus an air museum. Handily, historic sites are easy to track down outside of the cities and towns. An old estate made to look like a castle with turrets, Belvoir Castle (20 minutes) now has a playground, pop-up markets, grand gardens and a whole shopping village. Newstead Abbey (half an hour), once the home of the poet Lord Byron, has 300 acres of gorgeous parkland. Or in the National Trust’s The Workhouse (20 minutes), you can take a look at the inside of a Victorian workhouse where the poor were once housed.
