There’s been a campsite at Gables Farm Touring and Camping since way back in 1946… and with a history like that, you can be sure the team here have learnt a thing or two along the way about what makes a good place to stay. The essence of this small, family-run Gloucestershire site is to keep things simple but well done. Bathroom facilities are bright, clean and spacious, with toilets and showers, and there’s also a washing-up area and chemical disposal point for guests to use. And because no good day ever started without a decent breakfast, you can also pick up fresh free-range eggs on site too. Of course, it helps that this is a rather fine location too: in the Severn Vale about 15 minutes’ drive from the centre of Gloucester, and close to the western edge of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The site is just off the A38 and with easy access from the M5 (both northbound and southbound), so getting out and about should be straightforward. Eats and drinks should be in good supply around here, too – if you don’t fancy the trip to Gloucester there are pubs in Whitminster (two minutes’ drive) and Frampton on Severn (10 minutes), or you could venture to the lovely town of Stroud (15 minutes).

喜欢 We stopped at The Gables for 1 night on route home from Cornwall literally 5 mins off the M5. Perfect!! We were greeted by the lovely lady who took us to our hardstanding pitch close to the immaculate facilities, very new. Little bit of road noise but wasn't annoying. Would definitely use here for a stop off again

喜欢 This site was amazing!

Great location, as we used as a stopover from Cornwall to Manchester, so the proximity to M5 was appreciated.

The wardens were super helpful, communication was excellent, and the pitch was very quiet.

Facilities were clean and well maintained.

There was also a small village area less than 5 mins drive (turn left out of the gate, and just further on the same road) with several take aways, restaurants and a pub.

Will definitely stay again.

喜欢 We received a welcoming text the morning of arrival. On arrival we received a very warm welcome and shown to our pitch. The toilets and washing up area were impeccably clean.
Once snuggled down in our camper we couldn’t hear any traffic. Had the best nights sleep.
Zach and his wife were amazing, nothing was to much trouble!
Definitely going to come and visit again xx

喜欢 A really good site, toilets and showers are clean 24/7. Food outlets ,small shop, pub, 5 minutes away. Or 8 minutes a lovely garden centre. The site is easy access. The couple who ran the site we're helpful and pleasant.

不喜欢 Can be quite busy as it's a big place. You get use to the road noise and the quarry as it fades to the background.

Keen to experience a bit more of that farming life? Take the kids to Cattle Country Farm Park (15 minutes’ drive) for hands-on activities with the lambs, goats, pigs and rabbits plus all sorts of other fun things including miniature golf, a splash pool, a maize maze and a couple of play barns. Meanwhile, if you prefer open spaces and wildlife, head to WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre (15 minutes) to see what kind of birds you can spot. Around these parts are also several smart rural estates – if you’ve got an eye for a fancy historic house, aim for 12th-century Berkeley Castle or the 19th-century Gothic splendour of Woodchester Mansion (both 20 minutes). Green-fingered guests may instead prefer a wander along the paths of Painswick Rococo Garden (20 minutes). Gloucester (15 minutes) and Cheltenham (20 minutes) are both worth a visit while you’re in the area – and in between the two is the Jet Age Museum (20 minutes), with a fab collection of vintage planes and other aviation memorabilia.
